Sadly, much of BC is starting to be affected by the smoke caused by the numerous wildfires burning. Excess smoke in the air can cause respiratory issues, even in those who would normally have healthy lungs. We have many natural solutions to help improve respiratory function by opening airways, clearing mucous, and decreasing inflammation.
Here are our top suggestions to help protect your lungs.
1. Increase antioxidants - especially vitamin A. Vitamin A helps keep the lining of your respiratory system healthy, so it can help protect it from damage caused by smoke particles.
2. Stay hydrated with electrolytes. They provide minerals that are needed to stay hydrated at a cellular level and being well hydrated allows all functions to work optimally.
3. NAC (N-Acetyl Cysteine) helps protect the lungs from toxins, can relieve symptoms of respiratory conditions by acting as an antioxidant and expectorant, loosening mucus in your air passageways. ๐๐๐ Fresh Local Blueberry Lemon Loaf ๐๐๐
Treat yourself to a slice of summer and give this Healthy Protein-Rich Blueberry Lemon Loaf a try! Made with fresh, local blueberries, this delicious loaf is the perfect balance of tangy lemon and sweet blueberry goodness. Packed with protein and wholesome ingredients, it's the ideal weekend snack or breakfast treat.
Ingredients:
๐ 1 cup almond flour
๐ 1/2 cup oat flour
๐ 1/2 cup vanilla protein powder
๐ 1/4 cup coconut flour
๐ 1/4 cup flaxseed meal
๐ 1 tsp baking soda
๐ 1/2 tsp baking powder
๐ 1/4 tsp salt
๐ 2 large eggs
๐ 1/2 cup unsweetened applesauce
๐ 1/4 cup honey or maple syrup
๐ 1/4 cup unsweetened almond milk (or any plant-based milk)
๐ 1/4 cup fresh lemon juice (about 2 lemons)
๐ 1 tbsp lemon zest
๐ 1 tsp vanilla extract
๐ 1 cup fresh or frozen blueberries
Directions:
1. Preheat your oven to 350ยฐF (175ยฐC) and line a loaf pan with parchment paper or lightly grease it.
2. In a large bowl, whisk together the almond flour, oat flour, vanilla protein powder, coconut flour, flaxseed meal, baking soda, baking powder, and salt.
3. In another bowl, beat the eggs. Then add the applesauce, honey (or maple syrup), almond milk, lemon juice, lemon zest, and vanilla extract. Mix until well combined.
4. Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and stir until just combined. Be careful not to overmix. Gently fold in the blueberries.
5. Pour the batter into the prepared loaf pan and smooth the top. Bake for 45-55 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
6. Allow the loaf to cool in the pan for about 10 minutes, then transfer it to a wire rack to cool completely. Slice and enjoy!
Tips:
If using frozen blueberries, do not thaw them before adding to the batter to prevent them from bleeding into the loaf.
For an added touch, drizzle a simple lemon glaze on top made with lemon juice and powdered sugar.

A twist of fate brought Rob Horrick into organic farming 19 years ago when his mother spotted an orchard for sale in the classifieds. Since then, Rob and his family have been dedicated to quality, leaving their peaches and apples on the tree a bit longer for the best flavor.
โWe really focus on picking as tree ripe as possible to have the best flavour that we can,โ says Rob. โWe pack it all by hand too. Our name is on itโitโs not going to a packinghouse with other orchardsโ fruitโso we want it to be the best.โ

๐พ 1 cup cooked quinoa or brown rice (optional)
๐พ 1 tbsp dried parsley (for fresh breath)
๐พ1 tbsp ground flax or chia seeds (for omega-3s)

Directions
1. In a large pot, bring bone broth to a gentle simmer over medium heat. Stir in vegetables and cooked quinoa or brown rice (if using). Simmer 10โ15 minutes, or until vegetables are tender.
2. Set aside to cool slightly. Stir in dried parsley and ground flax or chia seeds.
3. Pour into silicone molds or ice cube trays, filling each compartment about ยพ full, and freeze 4โ6 hours or overnight, until completely solid. Store in an airtight container in the freezer.

This recipe is easy and does not require an ice cream maker. All you need is an electric mixer, a freezer, a few clean ingredients, our famous thick-cut bacon and Canadian maple syrup. ๐
