Lent is but a few weeks away, and you might be starting to wonder, "What am I going to do for Lent?!" This question proves to be stressful for many of us, as we begin to fret about "doing Lent the right way" or becoming distracted by what others are doing.â
â
This is not the purpose of the Lenten journey.â
â
As we know, Lent is all about going into the desert with Jesus, to fast and pray alongside Him. It's about ridding ourselves of anything that keeps us from Jesus so that He can more fully possess our hearts. It's about offering our whole hearts to Him in love and thanksgiving.â
â
Since that is our foundation for discerning what to "do" for Lent, the best way to go about deciding is to ask Jesus. Ask Him what He desires for your Lent. He knows your heart more deeply than anyone elseâeven yourself. He knows what will most benefit your soul and draw you closer to Himself this season. So start by asking Him.â

FEAST of the PRESENTATION of the LORD
February 2, 2023
Today is the Feast of the Presentation of our Lord Jesus Christ (cf. Luke 2:22-40). It is also known as "Candlemas" Day because candles are blessed. Christ is the Light of the World and Simeon speaks about that in scripture passage that is prayed by the Church during Night Prayer or Compline of the Liturgy of the Hours (cf. Luke 2:29-32).
Readings: https://bible.usccb.org/bible/readings/020223.cfm
The Feast of the Presentation of the Lord is also the World Day of Prayer for Consecrated Life. Many thanks to those who have generously responded to the call of the Lord to this vocation. May God who has begun a good work in you bring it to fulfillment (cf. Philippians 1:6).

Servant of God Sister Thea Bowman would be 85 today, Dec. 29th.
On June 17, 1989, Sister Thea Bowman spoke at Seton Hall University, becoming the first African American woman to address the U.S. Bishopsâ Conference.âŁâŁ
âŁâŁ
Sister Thea (1937-1990) was the granddaughter of a slave & an advocate for racial justice. Her cause for sainthood was opened in 2018.
âŁâŁ
In her famous 1989 speech at which she delivered while fighting cancer & wheelchair-bound, she said: âWhat does it mean to be black and Catholic? ... It means that I bring myself, my black self. I bring my whole history, my traditions, my experience, my culture, my African-American song and dance and gesture and movement and teaching and preaching and healing and responsibility as gift to the Church.â (Check out YouTube for her whole speech)âŁâŁ
âŁâŁ
The bishops thought so much of her, that after her speech they individually knelt before her & asked for her blessing. đđžâŁâŁ

đđžDay 1.
In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.
Amen.
O most pure Virgin Mary conceived without sin, from the very first instant, you were entirely immaculate. O glorious Mary full of grace, you are the mother of my God â the Queen of Angels and of men. I humbly venerate you as the chosen mother of my Savior, Jesus Christ.
The Prince of Peace and the Lord of Lords chose you for the singular grace and honor of being His beloved mother. By the power of His Cross, He preserved you from all sin. Therefore, by His power and love, I have hope and bold confidence in your prayers for my holiness and salvation.
I pray that your prayers will bring me to imitate your holiness and submission to Jesus and the Divine Will.
Queen of Heaven, I beg you to beg my Savior to grant me these requestsâŚ
(Mention your intentions)
My holy Mother, I know that you were obedient to the will of God. In making this petition, I know that Godâs will is more perfect than mine. So, grant that I may receive Godâs grace with humility as you did.
As my final request, I ask that you pray for me to increase in faith in our risen Lord; I ask that you pray for me to increase in hope in our risen Lord; I ask that you pray for me to increase in love for the risen Jesus!
Hail Mary, full of Grace, the Lord is with thee. Blessed art thou among women and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners now and at the hour of our death.
Amen.
