Rogue Scholars

We want to know things without waiting to be told. These are our curiosities, mistakes, and rewards!

No Dangers were harmed in the making of this film.

Danger here:
Two things; first off. I'd like to get with the first service and arrange (I'm colorado where I am) a way to help with the recovery from these wildfires. Perhaps just germination of wild local pinecones for planting new local trees.
Thoughts?
Secondly,
I have been posed the question a few times on how to become a "Rogue Scholar".
I've been thinking on this, I've come up with a few ideas but it gets complicated. Covid has hampered progress in the video editing field as I'm an RV tech. And have been working so hard I've not had much time to focus on things other than work.
Anyway, I'm up for suggestions. Perhaps once a month a pole in what type of thing you want is to try to learn, teach, or generally tackle.

How Did You Die?
by
Edmund Vance Cooke

Did you tackle that trouble that came your way
With a resolute heart and cheerful?
Or hide your face from the light of day
With a craven soul and fearful?
Oh, a trouble's a ton, or a trouble's an ounce,
Or a trouble is what you make it,
And it isn't the fact that you're hurt that counts,
But only how did you take it?
You are beaten to earth? Well, well, what's that?
Come up with a smiling face.
It's nothing against you to fall down flat,
But to lie there -- that's disgrace.
The harder you're thrown, why the higher you bounce;
Be proud of your blackened eye!
It isn't the fact that you're licked that counts,
It's how did you fight -- and why?
And though you be done to the death, what then?
If you battled the best you could,
If you played your part in the world of men,
Why, the Critic will call it good.
Death comes with a crawl, or comes with a pounce,
And whether he's slow or spry,
It isn't the fact that you're dead that counts,
But only how did you die?

Just keeping the autoclave company......fighting contaminants well into the evening. What do you think is inside and why?

Put parchment paper in a pan and cut some for the top. Place aside
Melt 3 Tbsp butter on lowest seting on your stove.
Then add:
4 cups jet puffed mini marshmallows and stir like the dickens until it's smooth and melty.
Then add 6 cups of rice crispies and fold in.
Take a spatula and put the brew in the pan place the top on and smooth over. Walk away.
No seriously walk away, you can eat the stuff off the sides of the spoons and clean. But seriously you need to walk away.
Then come back and eat it all.

We're finishing up with Jenns car tonight, fingers crossed. Well be splicing, editing, and posting a link to a video soon after.

Somehow homemade pies hasn't seemed homey enough until this point. The addition of for year old finger tracks has greatly improved the holiday geer :)

The day before Thanksgiving Jenn's car took a slide and decided to stop being a car. The day after Christmas we've finally gotten down to a beat up, rusty clutch system (and we deffinitely should have removed the drive shaft sooner... everything is in the way in a Jetta!!).

Today, we are on the hunt for a Shiny new clutch!!

Foraging is all about what you can eat... and what can kill you 👻

Early this Summer we mistook Virginia Creeper for Oregon Grapes, but as the fruit came around, Danger finally caught on before we tried to cook any!

Virginia Creeper is an invasive species that vines and wraps tightly around Evrything. And it's deadly to eat.

For the record, Oregon Grapes (a kind of barberry) have holly-like leaves, blue to black fruit growing in bunches, and as far as I (Jenn) know it does not turn bright red in the autumn like Creeper does!

Moral of this story: Always use the leaves and stems in identification!!

And let us know if you need help identifying anything. We've got a collection of resources!

It's Colorado driver's education awareness day!!
Well, not technically...

But it IS apple chopping day!
Again....

Photos from Rogue Scholars's post 09/10/2019

This week I, and Danger when he's not working his butt off on those RVs, have been chopping apples! Many, many apples...

What are we doing with them? Well, since we haven't found any inspiring recepies yet (hint hint), we've been making more wine of course! AND dehydrating slices for snacks. They are Good!

It's been a full weekend, but we are still goin!

Stay tuned for youtube links on the coffee and apple wines. Also in there's a molasses ginger hell-fail that's been passionately donated to the city sewer system. If nothing else it will chase the rats out of the tunnels....

The Best Apples In NoCo 06/10/2019

What should we do with them?? Please share some recepies!

Last weekend we helped host an amazing wine and painting night with the talented Kayla Crandall!
We blazed through a couple bottles of chokecherry wine and painted our hearts out!

Thank you friends for the fun day!
