Congratulations to Orrick Pro Bono Counsel Rene Kathawala on receiving New York Appleseed’s Pillar of Justice Award. For more than a decade, Rene has led Orrick pro bono teams in supporting Appleseed’s advocacy efforts to better integrate public schools in New York City.

After several years of virtual celebrations, 44 lawyers from 10 offices worldwide gathered in San Francisco for our 2023 Global Pride Retreat. Highlights included inspiring conversations with a panel of our LGBTQ+ clients and a keynote fireside chat with community leaders.

We were honored to have Reshma Saujani, a leading voice for inclusion in tech and a champion for the underrepresented, as our guest for the 20th event in our Inclusion Conversation Series. Orrick’s Anna Aryankalayil and Samir Bakhru hosted.

Wind Investment Awards: Orrick named ‘Legal Advisory of the Year’ Orrick has been named “Legal Advisory of the Year” in the Wind Investment Awards in London.

Last week we held our seventh Veterans’ Legal Career Fair in Washington, DC. We founded this event in 2015 because we wanted to hire more veterans at Orrick, but there was no easy forum. So we created one. It was the brainchild of our partner Lorraine McGowen.

This year, we hosted 37 law firms, government agencies and leading corporate legal departments for networking and interviews with lawyers who are veterans, active-duty service members and military spouses. We were honored to welcome The Honorable Donald M. Remy, Former Deputy Secretary of the Department of Veterans Affairs to deliver our keynote address on the unique skills and abilities veterans bring to the legal profession. This was followed by a panel discussion moderated by Joseph Moreno of SAP NS2 and featuring Matt Gardner of Meta, Rory Erickson-Kulas of Amazon Web Services and Anne Savin of Orrick, who shared their personal experiences of making the transition from military to civilian work.

During the first week of May, we hosted Orrick’s 2023 Global Senior Associate Academy in our New York office.

This program brought together 40 senior attorneys from 19 practice areas across 15 of our global offices to participate in a fully immersive, week-long, executive MBA program led by an expert team of Trust|Labs coaches. Together they explored the business concepts essential to becoming trusted advisors to our clients, including financial analysis and valuation, strategy and innovation, marketing and brand. Participants also had the opportunity to connect with NY-based colleagues and firm leaders throughout the week.
