I’m transitioning to digital art.
Over the years I’ve always been passionate about Art.
New technologies forever push the boundaries of what’s possible.
When I started getting into photography as a teenager you had to develop film. Then later cell phones came and everyone had a camera. DSLRs we’re still better but software was changing everything.
There were now “purists” as I like to call them. Ridiculous people who think you shouldn’t edit images. Photoshop became a huge tool that propeled people forward. Some hated it, some loved it. I personally, always loved it. Whether removing specks of dust, adjusting the exposure and colors, or even HDR imaging. I always thought of it as a tool in my arsenal.
When Ansel Adams created some of his best shots he used a tilt-shift lens. That lens was a tool, that not everyone had. Allowing him to create depth of field and image things that would be distorted in traditional photos. Should he have not been able to do this? What’s wrong with using what’s available?
Today cell phone rival some DSLRs and produce amazing images. If you get into the technical aspect DSLRs are still superior. However not in a way that 98% of the public could tell just by glancing at it.
Now people use filters straight from the software in their phone. People think this is unnatural and kinda like cheating. I however agree with Ansel.
“There are no rules for good photographs, there are only good photographs.” – Ansel Adams
Create the images that speak to you. Images that make you dream. Images that take you to another place and time.
Now about this transition to digital art. As many know I have had heath issues over the years that are not going to go away. I have had to adapt and adjust to what I’m physically capable of. It’s been a struggle and it’s been depressing at times. However it’s time to move on.
I have started to work recently with A.I. generated art. It’s controversial, it scares people. The art world is on its heels and things are going to change. Just like technology has done over and over throughout history.
I love it. It still requires a persons inputs to generate images. It never gives you quite what you would expect. It isn’t perfect, but it is beautiful. It’s limited only by your imagination.
I have started creating again, with the help of A.I., pieces that speak to me. It has opened back up my creative process. An idea, translated and then grown in MidJourney. Edited and adjusted in Photoshop Suites. Some may not consider this art. Some may not consider it really my own work. If that’s you, that’s okay. I’m going to do what makes me happy.
I’m going to start sharing these here. I hope you like and enjoy them as much as I do. Don’t hesitate to share, comment or even shoot me some ideas.
Looking forward to heading down this rabbit hole.
Sincerely
Mike

Here's a new photo from my shoot in January at Sand Harbor, Lake Tahoe.

Excited to announce my new website! Here you can purchase prints like normal sites. However you can also purchase a commercial license to one of my images. With this you would be able to download a full resolution image for a one time personal use.
This means you can buy a license and print my image anywhere you like. If you want to print it at Costco and buy a frame at Michael's now you can. This allows for people to enjoy the work without needing to buy expensive prints at high quality print shops. Now don't get me wrong those are beautiful prints. However some of my photos in my own home were printed at a Costco like store and they still look great.
People would also be able to buy the rights to one of my images for a blog or article they might be writing. Even companies could license an image for an add campaign if they wanted.
So I'm pretty excited about this new opportunity to share my work in a new type of stock photo like website. I will be uploading several images a day and will soon have my entire portfolio here. I hope you guys enjoy and shoot me some feedback when you can.
Take Care,
Michael Atkins

Sand Harbor Sunset from Veterans Day!
I took this photo a couple of days ago in Emerald Bay, Lake Tahoe. A 0430 wake up to shoot the sunrise comes easy when you have this for a destination.
