Big Announcement - Closing up Shop
We hope you’ll read this entire post 🙏

Hello everyone,

This is something that we have been considering for some time, and we have finally come to this conclusion that now is the time for us to close our doors.

There is no one, single reason that has led us to this decision. Certainly the pressures that each of you face in your own lives and finances mirror those that impact us. Inflation, recession fears, the widening political gulf in this country, and the enduring effects of the pandemic have all made the e-commerce environment exponentially more difficult. The social media landscape has been dramatically transformed in the past few years, to say nothing of where we started out when we opened our online store.

Dawn started the British Boutique six years ago, and I know she was and is still tremendously proud of the positive impact that we have had on so many members of this community. This business changed our lives and we met and have become friends with so many wonderful people. We made the switch to selling our own collections at one of the most difficult times, not only with the pandemic and all that came with it but with us, and Buster’s paralysis.

Live selling is no longer what it once was, and despite our efforts we were not able to settle on a format that continued to draw most of you in. At the same time, it is a flooded marketplace and you have many choices for where to shop. Competition not only makes things tougher, because it squeezes our margins, but it is also exhausting for everyone, meaning many of you were just harder to reach - with so many boutiques vying for your eyes, our engagement is no longer something we can count on. In fact with Facebook the way it is now, most days it’s effectively zero. The app made it much more convenient for you to view live sales and to shop, but coincidentally meant that reaching you became much more difficult for us. When our app doesn’t reach you, it is almost impossible for us to function.

Consumer preference is exceptionally difficult (impossible) to forecast or predict, and perhaps along the way we lost many of you. We decided to stop selling LLR because we could not be tied to anyone else’s schedule, and needed the freedom to provide for our puppies on our own terms. It was a choice, and we were grateful to be able to continue to work from home as long as we have, but in many ways it still felt felt forced. We probably don’t need to remind you that our puppies are our everything - they are our “why” and we do everything for them.

At the same time opportunities have arisen from our previous career and passion for live entertainment that are too good to pass up and gives us the time to focus on this new chapter and our family in the downtime, something the boutique has not allowed us to do. The constant need to be present 24/7 and the daily stress of sales leaves little room to actually take a break.

So we have decided to pursue another chapter outside of the clothing retail business. We still stand by everything that we’ve carried, and I am tremendously proud of what Dawn built in the British Boutique. We always tried to bring you beautiful styles that were reasonably priced - we truly did hand-pick everything and tried to bring you a “better” collection even if a smaller one. Even now, where many might see higher prices relative to other shops, we feel strongly that we always tried to be fair and respectful in how we operated.

We have dropped all our prices so you can shop our closeout sale. Every purchase is still very much appreciated, and we thank you for your continued support. Please don’t hesitate to grab anything you might love. Please also tell any friends, family, colleagues, neighbors, hairdressers etc because we need every single piece gone so we can make the move into the next chapter
