Such an honor to have my little Ponderosa pine needle rimmed gourd recognized...this picture and explanation was copied from the Gilpin Arts web page https://gilpincountyartsassociation.org/current-showing/ .
One of the hardest things to do in 3D form and ex*****on is to combine multiple materials and create harmony and good design concurrently. This piece contains the ancient story of our ancestors that were of the earth in the color presentation (earthy browns, greens, copper stains of the main body and the brown woven pine needle top). The black base holds this piece for all to experience and enjoy, while not taking away from the piece itself. Nicely done and a great job of demonstrating simple beauty.

Our Story
Gourd Art-Metal Smith-Fabric Art...that’s what I do!
I discovered hard body gourds several years ago, took a brief introductory class, joined several Gourd Guilds, asked lots of questions and finally developed my own techniques for working with my beautiful and fragrant Ponderosa pine needles. The combination of earthy gourds with coiled and woven pine needles reflects the peace and serenity I find in Colorado’s magnificent mountains, deep shadowy canyons, rivers, creeks and the fresh blue sky.
The gourds I use are organically grown in California. I hand paint each gourd then add coiled or woven pine needles to complete it. The Ponderosa pine needles are collected each year from trees that we planted on our Colorado property over 30 years ago.
My gourd art: An ancient useful art form adapted for today.
I hope you enjoy my designs as much as I enjoy creating them!
