FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
FELIX CAVALIERE & GENE CORNISH’S
RASCALS
- GENE CORNISH HEALTH UPDATE
It was only just three months ago that two legendary founders of the band The Rascals, Felix Cavaliere and Gene Cornish, announced they were going to tour together for the first time in five years. They were going out for the love of the music, for the love of their fans and not taking things for granted anymore. Then, on Friday, September 7, while performing the opening sequence to “A Beautiful Morning,” Cornish, collapsed on the Alberta Bair Theatre stage in Billings, Mont.
The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Grammy Hall of Fame Inductee and guitarist, doctors said, suffered from a heart arrhythmia. Doctors at the Billings Clinic implanted a pacemaker to correct the condition. Cornish is resting from this minor procedure and feeling remarkably better.
“I feel so grateful to the two nurses that were in attendance at our show,” Cornish, 74, said. “I’m so thankful for the staff at the Alberta Bair Theatre and the many people that helped me. Everything happened so quickly and their training came right into play. They knew what to do and no one hesitated.”
Cornish has been cleared to start his rehabilitation and resume performances in October.
After Billings, Cavaliere, along with guest drummer Carmine Appice, forged on to perform Sunday, September 9, at the Hard Rock Rocksino in Northfield, Ohio. While Cornish apologized to the group and to fans via social media, he urged that the show must indeed go on.
“This music is timeless and I told the guys in the band that this shouldn’t interfere with the concerts previously planned and scheduled,” Cornish said. “Music brings us all together and the love I have for our songs is bigger than me holding everyone back. I know everyone was deeply concerned, but I’m a fighter. Thank you so much again to everyone that send prayers and well wishes. It’s humbling and our music has made us all closer together than we could ever imagine.”
The Rascals are widely considered the best ‘blue-eyed soul’ group to come out of the 1960s and their music the soundtrack of a generation. Cornish and Cavaliere are also members of the Vocal Group Hall of Fame and Cavaliere is a Songwriters Hall of Fame inductee. The Rascals have 17 Top 20 hits, seven Top 10 hits, and three No. 1 hits that include “Groovin’, “People Got To Be Free” and “Good Lovin’.”
