Love this death meditation of a song by
☸️ Yoga was practiced since the pre-Vedic period (2700 BC), but Sage °Patanjali° was the first to put this practice and philosophy in written form in his °Yoga Sutras° waaay later around 200BC to 400CE. That's almost 3000 years apart. And 5000 years away from us :)
✡️ I'm a history buff so love relating this to what was going on elsewhere in the world at the time, and appearance of the nearest prophets because I believe Yoga was revealed knowledge, what I call the afterglow of prophetic presence amongst us, much like the Islamic golden age. The Vedic golden age is magical and our ancestral treasure! ✨️✨️✨️
🕉 Dhyan means meditation. It is the seventh limb of Eight Limbs of Yoga (Ashtanga) after Dharana, which is concentration. Dharan is the first step to meditation and Dhyan is the actual stage of meditation where deep levels of concentration are developed.
🛐 Meditation is a part of every spiritual discipline. It is what Muhammad (saw) did in the cave till he was 40, before he ever received prophethood.
⚛️ I use app nowadays, it's like onlyfans but for meditation practitioners :)
🛐 Give it a go! Especially if you're someone who has problems with religious practice, let this become a regular part of your spiritual hygiene.
Eid Mubarak!

Hanging out with some IRON these days!
So I've mentioned my IDA (iron deficiency anemia) several times here. It's a condition I've had kind of since forever: always been pale, like proper Simpsons yellow and get out of breath very easily. But I'm hardy and like lifting heavy things - proverbially and actual furniture and stuff - partially due to trauma driven hyper independence 🥲 so I've done many long hikes over the years all the while panting like a dog and feeling like I'm about to die and my heart will pop out of my chest. But I kind of always minimised it and thought it was normal?
Two years ago I decided to do something about it. This included lots of vit C with an iron rich diet (red meat, greens, beetroot), ABC juice, already big on fruits so YUM, probiotics (in case it was a gut issue), separating my calcium intake (dairy) from meals by 3hr gaps etc.
Recently I resumed strength training to work on my handstand and joined this very aptly named gym for this phase of life specifically! Iron seemed to be pushing its way into my universe. It was a calling and I know a sign when I see it. Also I couldn't risk it any more because I remember some of my symptoms worsened last time I was strength training. Restless tingling itchy limbs, insomnia mostly.
I decided to drop my hippie doctors-are-evil big pharma corporate greed etc mantra, let my ego go and accept my method wasn't working. I got the IV infusion because my ferritin is a quarter of what is normal. I decided to trust the blood doctor.
Interestingly, I might not have taken this decision if yoga and experience hadn't taught me the power of knowing when to let go and trust another. I'm going the homeopathic route in the long run, once modern medicine has done the damage/symptom control, which it is good at.
And now the exciting part of finding the culprit will begin. But I don't need to become a needlessly insufferable sufferer in the process.
When that drip is pumping the metal into me, i meditate to solfeggio frequencies and embrace what the hospital at its core represents, the hippocratic oath, the fact that it is a place that delivers _some_ form of healing (I missed stuff, part 2 soon iA❣️)

🪴I find it so cool how every instructor unveils a unique way of approaching the practice.
🪴As with everything else, yoga is partly learning from the guide and partly discovering your own unique flavour as you go deeper :)
The many shivasans of UU
I pray you find magical shivasans no matter how short.
I hope you experience the timeless dream-like state I can best describe as shimmering: tiny light particles etherising off me complete with sound effects?? Kind of how a yawn sounds in the ears.
Origin story. Semantics wise. When I was born, my name was Noor. called me nooru. My bebe totla mouth turned it into UU. I referred to myself as UU in third person.
Toddlers often do this and I think its super deep and the underlying impulse behind today's pronouns business. Its an acknowledgement of the fact that we have a dualistic existence in this plane. There is the soul, and its keeper. The observer and the experiencer.
You are entrusted with the care of [your name here], and you cannot do with [Them] as you please. It is a sacred trust, to safekeep and give back as close as possible to how you found it.
Names given to us by those who know us best hold real power. They evoke and summon an era, a side of us that was reflected back to us by fellow soul-mirrors. If they die, that name and version of us dies with them. To be allowed to play with another's name is an act of intense love or unlove. It's to give them a place in our universe, a string to hold them by so they may meet us when we cross over to other realms.
In mythology, folklore, traditional wisdom, the occult, etc. to know and name something is often to possess and have power over it.
Its said God has (at least) one hidden/mystery name, implicit in the 99.
Maybe it's what we call him in our purest most intimate moments. So its mutable, pure potentiality, shape shifting depending on who says it. Maybe that last name has infinite ways of being said and therefore cannot be said. Its both wave and particle, depends who says it and when.
Or its pure nothingness, silence. 🌌
Khair, UU was later appropriated and turned into Yewyew by .shamsulain and continues to evolve today into its current chonky variation yeonyeon (phonetic translation my own). I'm glad I made the account when I did before it got too postmodern 🫣
And there you have it!
Mystery solved, I know its been keeping some of you up at night 😝

Mystic Mind is LIVE!
Every Sunday, 3 to 5 pm.
Become part of a community and discover the divine gift of connection.
🌌 Being part of a collective yields at its heart the golden lesson:
☆~The whole is greater than the sum of its parts~☆
🌠 Learning to harmonise with the universe by cultivating the skill of listening and responding to ourselves and others.
⚡️Mystic mind aims to cultivate this skill of vibing with, riding the waves of, the present moment as it comes, which require a fine dance between letting go and powering through, one of the key learnings of yoga!
🌟All that is needed is an open mind, ready to receive whatever our collective synchronisation has to offer. Everyone brings their unique and sacred creativity to this experience and we all hold space for this to unfold!
🪐To warm up, and cleanse our energies we start off with traditional yoga and meditation. So the One that approaches the Other is in a state of ☆~Flow~☆!
Iz called a yoga practice not a yoga perfect💫
Getting to know this bag o bones before it's all dust and entropy 🌟

Mirroring her forms, trying to harmonise with her ragas, looking to read her rhymes, and play with the patterns she shines my way. Gaia, mother nature, the universe's feminine aspect :)
I've been dragging my feet about starting gym, so gracious universe sent gym to me.
Deadlift and squat opened up glutes and hamstrings like nobody's business! Felt like I'd been immobile before.
I love strength training, and there's something in it entirely different from yoga. It's not just that gains are faster but the muscle isolation brings so much awareness to the structure of the body. Maybe it's because form is so crucial in strength training, you could apparently be doing the same movement and only a trained eye, or sometimes only you yourself can know if you're engaging the right muscle.
In fact, 'talking' to muscles or body parts which I've discussed before was brought to another level in this space. I found myself doing lat pulls for a month before I figured out which muscle I was even targeting and needed to use.
So I'm not a yoga purist nor will any good movement/embodiment/ physical trainer be. We all jump tracks all the time, because once you have a rapport going with the body through any one discipline, the body loves learning new ways of moving and being!
Every modality engages with the body through its own energy and flavour and they all rewire the brain body connection in such inspiring ways, kind of blows your mind what a beautiful gift the body is mA if handled correctly with care :)
So while I consider yoga the mother science, because
1. It's ancient
2. Spiritual core
3. Every single modern fitness program borrows from it, pilates, calisthenics, dance, just EVERYTHING. Like salt, it's essential and seamlessly merges into other disciplines.
But! it's also a starting point and baseline to discovering that your body is capable of more than you ever thought possible!
Anything else physical I've tried has affected and improved my yoga and conversely yoga has improved existing practices even prayer!
All yoga does is invite us to truly experience the soul within a possibly close but definitely not touching loosely connected through electromagnetic forces bunch of electrons that usually appear to manifest as flesh and blood and finite but really not becoz quantum entanglement our thoughts can change the furthest corners of space time
Aaand it's a touchdown after so long! Forgot I was working on improving my pancake (seated wide legged forward fold) in the flurry of all the inversions mehnat mushaqat.🤸
In my personal practise, there's two types of sessions.
One, I'm following an app/online instructor which I also love because I honestly don't want to improvise a flow for myself daily.. that's kind of 'work'? Despite being fun and I'm totally into it as a teacher..
But just like therapists need therapists, yoga instructors crave yoga instruction, especially from varied sources that mixes it up every once in a while. My baseline is always I love almost everything about this app, especially the music.🎶
Second kind is when it's open ended, I'm just there with my curiosity and I'm just going with deep stretches for way longer, like this one e.g. like 20 - 30 minutes. there is something of an epiphany in these sessions, discoveries, going deeper than I have ever been, a quiet meditative state where I am just breathing through it (sometimes in the initial breaking in phase I do distract myself with my phone 😶🌫️)
You've probably come across research doing rounds on the Internet that learning done through play takes way less time/is more effective. This didn't take less time - in sessions like these, I don't keep track of time. But it takes less time in the sense that I am able to master a skill in fewer sessions than it might have otherwise taken?
+ I've noticed the more present and engaged I am (letting go of phone stage) settling into the dull pain, expanding into it, the greater the overall gains.. not just physical.
These kind are rare sheerly because o the level of presence required, you can't have an amazing prayer/jam/creative practice session every single time.. you can increase their frequency indefinitely as you grow in that je ne sais quoi, vibing with the universe? Which definitely happens the deeper + longer you hold a spritual ritual of any sort.
My hips are super tight so its intense coming out of these, and honestly you're not actually supposed to stretch for that long so be careful and don't try this at home kids!
More on this play element in the next post!
Why Alain De Botton is one of my favourite people. If you don't follow School of Life on every platform, especially Youtube, stop missing out! ._.of._.life
**Part 2 continued**
Also, like we discussed in my many-parts foot post... our feet go on vacation with too! They experience fine sand, coarse sand, small jagged sharp rocks, rounded rocks, big rocks, wet riverside rocks, tree bark, grass, gravel, grit and dirt! Let them have a party too, they deserve it, working so hard getting you from asphalt to carpet to tile... they must yawn with boredom and roll their eyes at the scant variety of same old we offer them.
Unless...! Every now and then you get your tennis ball, and send it exploring for knots, tightness, funky bits, roll it under all the tiny foot muscles as you do your screen time...mmmm YUM!!!
And I almost forgot the best part!! There were NO SOCKS. They're washable so 😇 Alhumdulillah I don't really have stinky feet generally but even if you do just wash them, they dry quickly because it's synthetic materials.
So that's a drawback. No Earthing/grounding. I have worn khussas most of my life so it took a while adjusting to sport shoes as daily footwear, what with all the static shocks I kept getting few years ago :( aand the ethical production part, they're made in china I dunno you know?
Lastly, can you tell that I've tried to spell/write C H I L L in this picture with the shoes like a dork? 🤘

Taking pictures for insta helped me straighten out my chaturanga 🎋
This is an appreciation post for the *potentially* good side of insta. I barely ever open my personal account now because it's just boring and other people's lives. My yoginsta is all yoga, movement, dance and wellness. It's a nice place to be. (I was going to write my happy place but thankfully that's not really true astaghfirullah.. that would be ye olde cat-scratched mat and maybe my room in our last house). It gives me great technical information about actual poses, webinars and workshops, inspiration and new stuff to try and a lot more..
BUT I still watch my usage time like a hawk, because the doing and living part of life needs to be balanced out with the watching and learning I feel. The active and the passive, the inhale and the exhale as we learn on the mat :)
It's so hard though haina.. If you struggle to regulate this double edged sword medium, doom scrolling that makes you feel like a zombie and you feel your soul dies a little bit every time you're on social media.. Maybe set up a new account that mirrors only the best version of the universe and yourself?
But even that can turn into a trap and it's all the things you will eventually do and be and buy.. one day.
Saved posts are so funny. It's like our aspirational digital man-drawer (A la Eddie Izzard). Mine is lots of stuff I think I definitely need to eventually buy.. like a washing machine cover 🥹
And poses I will eventually get to inshAllah 😸
So set up your now and may it become your
