It's been a very very long time since I've done any public artwork. (Long draining story for another time.) But thanks to a good friend Kendra Elliott I was encouraged to create something, so I did. This took a lot longer than I wanted, was pretty frustrating but I haven't done artwork in a very long time. They say some talents are as easy to recall as riding a bike, unless the bike you try to remember to ride is lacking a chain. smile emoticon
There are others that have helped encourage me throughout the years, I know I will miss many in naming them, but I thank all of you from silent fans to the very vocal.
Has anyone else missed my art? You want to see more then let me know.

One would think that the most important part of the day is when you wake to state, 'Universe today I will show you how great I am' and yes it's a great way to start the day, however life is not about statements of things to do. The most important part of your day is when you're about to go to sleep, and you can state 'Universe today i showed you how great I am'
Greatness is not a thing of pride, but a matter of being human and alive, having the power to make this very moment something special for anyone, even when you don't even realize it. We each have greatness within, embrace it!

Today is the Story I Fight For

Yesterday was so long ago
Tomorrow is a story for the young
Today is the story I fight for
Today and tomorrow began with yesterday
At the beginning when hands were held
Promises made at such an innocent time
We never knew the mess we’d make
How could we have known
The stars were still young
All our words so full of life love and joy
The age when everything will last forever
This myth we tested out to be true
So we thought
You remember that time we…
Of course you do
We didn’t care what was to be next
We were having too much fun
To notice just exactly what was happening
We forgot about the beginning
Not sure how it happened
We were so busy fighting
We didn’t notice our innocence drifting away
The stars just aged
Our words once full of life and love now empty
This is not the stories end though
Nothing may last forever
However I choose to remember the beginning
With hands held when the stars were young
Yesterday wasn’t that long ago
Tomorrow is the story yet written
Today is the story I fight for

My art site, my name, poetry everything is based on the name of "The Midnight Streets" Something I felt long ago, but suppressed lots about it, hid so much, ignored and forgotten.

I stopped writing, expressing, and sharing because I didn't understand, but emotion and life has an interesting way of, well balancing out correctly.

The Midnight Streets... .Each and every single one of us have walked those streets, a place, an emotion, a state of mind, a loss, a rage, hate something that just makes us feel so absolutely alone .

You're never alone, ever.

I stumbled upon these streets many years ago, for my own reasons, for we all go there for different reasons, and I wrote this poem in 2003 trying to understand. I didn't then, and only now am I getting a glimpse of the truth of it all. The birth of The Midnight Streets in my mind.

So many lost in what has happened, regret, shame, guilt, loss, pain, that's just listing a few things that leads us here.

The reasons for being on those streets are unique,. but what we share, is the journey home to something, amazing.

The Midnight Streets

Walk the Midnight streets
Seeking solace in hidden lights
Crawl forth from deepest lewdness
Tainted by Fears own embrace
Dare to look within that clouded eye
The stranger glares, preaching his words
Words of great sorrow
Masked by the thoughts of life
Divided from one place to another
Swirling about in this Sweet Wonderland
A mother covers her child’s eyes
The sights already spoiled the innocent being
A young girl covers her face in agonies tears
As the tub drains away her life’s source
The pain stings from her wrist
A father mourns his child’s loss
Eyes turned heaven ward
In bitter passion
Cries away his soul’s vitality
Asking why
A radio thrusts out its poetic call
As a young man looks himself in the mirror
Screaming out in miseries pain
So very alone, with no one to hold
Breaking down to beginning’s mold
As a child, in the dark, weeping away in sorrow’s will
As he hides from the brutal words of a drunken father
Listening to torments true meaning
His entire small body jumping with every loud sound
Tears pouring in relentless streams
Taking in the pain of his beaten mother
Screaming out in utter silent grief
At a funeral damped in sorrows blackness
A man cradles over the casket
His one true love, dear wife, lost
Taken by the man who had that one last drink
In a mighty explosion of sound, crash,
Another soul leaving this Mortal’s confinement
All out of love, so lost without her
Finding it hard to get up each day
Toss and turn, with no sleep come
He takes a walk one black night
In hopes to clear his mind
He walks, with so many others
On the Midnight Streets.

This is my first release for my "Then and Now" Project. "Fallen Angel" on the left is the original 2006 version. On the right is my remake using the techniques I've learned over the years.

The images below the year dates are close up look at the canvas to better show the differences.

I have a fun treat for tomorrow, being Throwback Thursday and all, I've gone back and completely recreated several of my very earliest works using everything I've learned since then, while also attempting to keep them as accurate to the original.

Charlie Chaplin final speech in The Great Dictator

You the people have the power...

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QcvjoWOwnn4&sns=em

I’m sorry, but I don’t want to be an emperor. That’s not my business. I don’t want to rule or conquer anyone. I should like to help everyone - if possible - Jew, Gentile - black man - white. We all want to help one another. Human beings are like that. We want to live by each other’s happiness - not by each other’s misery. We don’t want to hate and despise one another. In this world there is room for everyone. And the good earth is rich and can provide for everyone. The way of life can be free and beautiful, but we have lost the way.

Greed has poisoned men’s souls, has barricaded the world with hate, has goose-stepped us into misery and bloodshed. We have developed speed, but we have shut ourselves in. Machinery that gives abundance has left us in want. Our knowledge has made us cynical. Our cleverness, hard and unkind. We think too much and feel too little. More than machinery we need humanity. More than cleverness we need kindness and gentleness. Without these qualities, life will be violent and all will be lost....

!/images/photos/0000/0874/Great_Dictator_Pub_140-6_normal.jpg! The aeroplane and the radio have brought us closer together. The very nature of these inventions cries out for the goodness in men - cries out for universal brotherhood - for the unity of us all. Even now my voice is reaching millions throughout the world - millions of despairing men, women, and little children - victims of a system that makes men torture and imprison innocent people.

To those who can hear me, I say - do not despair. The misery that is now upon us is but the passing of greed - the bitterness of men who fear the way of human progress. The hate of men will pass, and dictators die, and the power they took from the people will return to the people. And so long as men die, liberty will never perish. .....

Soldiers! don’t give yourselves to brutes - men who despise you - enslave you - who regiment your lives - tell you what to do - what to think and what to feel! Who drill you - diet you - treat you like cattle, use you as cannon fodder. Don’t give yourselves to these unnatural men - machine men with machine minds and machine hearts! You are not machines! You are not cattle! You are men! You have the love of humanity in your hearts! You don’t hate! Only the unloved hate - the unloved and the unnatural! Soldiers! Don’t fight for slavery! Fight for liberty!

In the 17th Chapter of St Luke it is written: “the Kingdom of God is within man” - not one man nor a group of men, but in all men! In you! You, the people have the power - the power to create machines. The power to create happiness! You, the people, have the power to make this life free and beautiful, to make this life a wonderful adventure.

Then - in the name of democracy - let us use that power - let us all unite. Let us fight for a new world - a decent world that will give men a chance to work - that will give youth a future and old age a security. By the promise of these things, brutes have risen to power. But they lie! They do not fulfil that promise. They never will!

Dictators free themselves but they enslave the people! Now let us fight to fulfil that promise! Let us fight to free the world - to do away with national barriers - to do away with greed, with hate and intolerance. Let us fight for a world of reason, a world where science and progress will lead to all men’s happiness. Soldiers! in the name of democracy, let us all unite!

This Strange Place

Where once these halls I roamed
As master of this domain
A God king with no equal
Yet now the stones in the walls
They mock my memory
My fingers touch the roughness
Cold empty barren
My Eyes must deceive me
This cannot be the same place
Perhaps turned about and lost
Did I make a left or was it a right?
Haven’t I already been passed this door?
Yet here this mark in the wall
This is familiar to me
A sense of something real yet gone so quickly
Perhaps I am mistaken
Do I really recognize this mark?
So many sensations
I wish to remember
Do I dare take another step within this madness?
It’s the only way to remember
Yet do I truly wish to remember?
My shouts and screams return nothing not even an echo
Such madness within my own domain
Memories past whisper within my mind
Yet a language unknown
It’s the voice that whispers to me
Her voice digging deep within me
I know that voice or do i?
The voice is that my freedom?
Or the reason I am so lost here?
Further into madness I must travel
I know these walls
This is my home or is it?
This Strange Place

We surround ourselves with those that would hold us back, push us down, speak words to belittle, or destroy self worth. We surround ourselves with those that lost their sense of dreams, ideas of success, and lost faith in self worth and in turn convey that into us. The reasoning is not by lack of knowing any better, but rather because they are those that are the most familiar in our lives. There is an answer to this which is not destructive, nor does it push away those that in turn need light as well, the answer is just close your eyes and listen find those voices that speak kindness, value, uplifting energy, grand tales of success, joy and happiness. Listen for those that would see you smile in joy.
We are trained to ignore them...
Break that training, reach out today this very moment and be one of those people. I challenge each that read this, make someone smile today, tomorrow for the rest of your life bring smiles.
