It has been 10 very busy days! It all started with the NASA-NOAA meeting in Boulder, Colorado for a post Artemis evaluation and start the planning for the upcoming missions. Then AMS…serve as overall planning committee member, met amazing people, saw old friends, spoke to students at the career fair, presented at the Presidential Forum titled “Data Enterprise from Ocean to Space”, judge student posters and presented at the Moon to Mars Space Weather Session! 😳😅 I am exhausted but so happy how well everything went. Also the announcement came out for the Heliophysics Decadal Survey and I am one of the Space Weather Panel members! 🙌🏻❤️ Thank you also to my M2M team for all the support and amazing work. You guys rock! 👏🏻

Houston, we have a new record 🌎

On Saturday, November 26, at 8:40 a.m. ET, the Orion spacecraft broke the record for the farthest distance traveled from Earth of a human-rated spacecraft. The record was previously held by Apollo 13 at 248,655 statute miles from Earth.

On Monday, Nov. 28, Orion will reach its maximum distance from Earth at approximately 272,514.9 miles. Stay tuned on social media for more major mission updates. Go Artemis I!

I love my job! ❤️

Dr. Yaireska (Yari) Collado-Vega is a scientist and the director of the Moon to Mars Space Weather Analysis office at NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center. The office supports human deep space exploration activity and NASA robotic missions with space weather assessments. For the upcoming Artemis and Gateway missions, the team is analyzing and validating state-of-the-art models of space radiation.

“Being myself and not letting others dictate my future has helped me in my journey. I started at NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center 18 years ago as a student looking to fulfill a dream that I had since I was 6 years old to work for NASA. I wanted to work for the space exploration program and now I am directing an office that will protect the astronauts. It has been a roller coaster, but an amazing journey. I love my job and the amazing people I work with every day.“
