Guessing the Brief cartoon - Marketoonist | Tom Fishburne I stumbled across a quote recently from legendary ad agency founder Pat Fallon: “If the creative brief is not itself creative, what right do its authors have to expect anything different?” The brief is often treated as a formality or a tick-box exercise, rather than one of the most important too...
Important info for anyone posting to IG. Especially for those who may be taking advantage of the fact that they recently allowed longer video posts!
"According to Instagram’s content team, posting Reels longer than 90 seconds can actually hurt your reach in the app."
If you ARE having success with your longer video posts, I would not change your plan. But if you have been posting longer videos and have not been getting any traction, that, combined with this information may be a good reason to pivot to shorter (less than 90 second) posts.
Instagram Says Posting Longer Reels Can Hurt Your Performance Reels longer than 90 seconds often don't have the same reach as shorter content, according to IG.
Yes, this is a promotion for Hootsuite but it is also a very good explanation of how and when to use boosted posts vs ads.
One thing that I would add is that I usually suggest giving content some time (either a few hours or even days) to work organically, before you boost it.
If you still aren't sure which are right for you, give me a call or DM me here - happy to set up a time to discuss and come up with an effective plan to meet YOUR goals.

I don't like to stoke the AI hysteria but also can't pretend that it is all good.
These researchers found, no surprise, that not only can AI be programmed to deceive, but that they are very good at it.

The Rabbit R1 - the Future of Tech 🌟
While many of us feel we already have enough gadgets in our lives, this Rabbit R1 presentation gives you a glimpse into the future of smartphone technology
📱Early adopters have pre-ordered over a million of these devices but for those who are more patient, my bet is that the functionality and features of the Rabbit R1 will soon be integrated into our everyday smartphones.
Keep in mind that all of these 'actions' are already available using ChatGPT and other applications, the feat here is the integration and streamlining of the functions and ease of interaction.
Are YOU going to get a Rabbit R1? Which functions are you most interested in?

New ways for your content to be found on .
I do like the tone and feel of Threads and love how Adam Mosseri is like the 'anti-Zuck', not only being super transparent about what they are doing and why, but also in how he seems genuinely excited to share every new functionality. I find his excitement refreshing and contagious.
I also like that he has acknowledged the problems the platforms face due to spammers and seems to be trying to create a place that works for those of us who really WANT to network socially!
I remember when hashtags were actually helpful - not sure if 'tags' will be able to reclaim that but I appreciate that they are trying!
Threads Rolls Out Topic Tags to All Users Another step in the development of Meta's real-time discussion app.
So very pleased to share this note I received today from a client whose site we just completed.
OK - so this new feature may be obsolete within a month or so (when AI totally takes over search - only a slightly kidding about the timing) but til then, this may be a useful way to stay on top of topics you care about.
Google Adds New Option to ‘Follow’ Search Topics for Regular Updates Is this a handy addition for your Google searches?
I think that many of us can relate to this sentiment.
First-Gen Social Media Users Have Nowhere to Go The collective erosion of X, Instagram, and Facebook marks a turning point for millennials, who are outgrowing a constant need to be plugged in.
I have been spending a lot of time with various AI tools to learn how to use them for myself and for clients. While I do love ChatGPT, I often need graphics created to better explain statistics - not something that it can do on its own (yet).
Today I tried a plug-in that connects ChatGPT to DALL-E3 for this purpose.
I gave it a series of LinkedIn statistics and asked it to create a graphic. Interestingly, this was the text response:
"The infographic has been created to illustrate the income demographics of LinkedIn users based on the provided statistics. It visualizes the distribution of household income among LinkedIn members, highlighting the percentage of high, middle, and low-income earners. The design aims to be clear and professional, suitable for a corporate audience."
Which sounded perfect.
Unfortunately, as you can see from the attached graphic, the image it generated was total gibberish.
I am sharing this as it is a great example of where we are today with using AI for business - it can fool you into thinking that it really knows exactly what you want and that it can deliver that, almost instantaneously. It can sometimes produce things that look GREAT - this image, if you ignore the fact that it makes no sense, has a ton of spelling errors and is useless for my purposes, does actually APPEAR to be a good visualization of the stats, as requested.
If I spent more time feeding it specific requests and refining the prompts, I might actually get an end product that works.
And yes, by next week, they may have a new plug in that works way better.
Til then, please be careful when relying on AI for anything work related. Double check everything from formatting to spelling and of course to confirm it all makes sense.
We are definitely NOT yet at the point where it can perform flawlessly.
That said, it CAN still perform some tasks quite well - composing social posts among them. Definitely try and use these tools, just be careful to check the results before sharing.
When is the best time to post on LinkedIn? People ask me this question all the time and I always say that it is key to find out when YOUR network is active and interested. This can vary greatly, depending on your goals and audience. Sometimes it means sticking to 9-5 'office hours' while for others who are trying to reach say, young parents, they might be better off focusing on an 'after kids' bedtime' hours when that audience may finally have a moment to themselves.
I have also had luck with weekend days for those with longer form and inspirational content.
That said, here is some general data for all of you who love stats and want some general guidelines. Keep in mind that these times, deemed 'best', will also probably be the 'noisiest' - meaning everyone else may also be posting at these times, leaving your content to be lost in the barrage.

It provides a list of accounts across various platforms that promote positivity, inspiration, humor, and beauty.
