Time to collect those coins porque the Queen of Salsa and Cuban icon, Celia Cruz, has been selected to appear on the U.S. quarter!! 🎉 She will be one of five honorees in the 2024 American Women Quarters Program.
Cruz, who died in 2003, was selected by the United States Mint to be one of the five honorees in the 2024 American Women Quarters Program.

ES TLAXCALLI, NO TORTILLA
La palabra Tortilla, no es una palabra mexicana ni proviene de ninguna lengua mesoamericana, es de procedencia española.
La palabra "tortilla" proviene del latín y significa "pequeña torta".
Los españoles nombraron "tortilla" al "Tlaxcalli" (Tlashcali), nombre original en náhuatl de la tortilla mexicana.
Una prueba de que la palabra "tortilla" no proviene del náhuatl, es que el náhuatl clásico es decir de hace 500 años, no tenía la letra "R".
De hecho, en el idioma náhuatl prehispánico; no existían los sonidos correspondientes a las letras B, D, F, J, Ñ, R, V, LL y X.
Los sonidos que más han generado confusión son los de la LL y el de la X.
La LL en palabras como Calpulli, Tollan, Calli no se pronunciaba como suena en la palabra llanto, sino como en lento; la X en todo momento se pronunciaba sh, como shampoo, en inglés.

IES San Diego works with the IES Language Foundation, a national non profit, bringing the gift of second languages to children. IES San Diego has operated in San Diego County for the last 25 years serving more than 45,000 students in a number of districts. In these shifting times, we have expanded our services to seek out and curate some of the most exceptional learning resources available to families and offer our expertise to help navigate distance learning of all subject matter.
