LCHS HOSA students traveled to Calhoun Community College in Tanner, AL today. Mrs. Herd and Mrs. Honea were accompanied by our hometown legend, Coach Louis Thompson as a chaperone and our honorary chaperone/bus driver, Mr. Rex Sullivan. The trip was made possible by Dr. Jennifer Louden,  nursing instructor at Calhoun. The day included two cadaver labs in which we watched intubation procedures, intraosseous needle placement, and were able to view anatomical structures of the human body including the heart and lungs in the thoracic cavity, as well as the patella and proximal tibia among many other structures. Some students were able to hold the human heart in their gloved hands and also place and squeeze an Ambu bag to give air to the intubated cadaver. Included in this trip was a tour of the health science programs at Calhoun Community College including Dental Hygiene, Dental Assisting, Physical Therapy Assistant, EMT, Nursing, Medical Laboratory Assistant and Surgical Technology to name a few. Students were also able to sit in on one of the nursing class's lectures. Everyone gained tremendous knowledge about the human body, health science programs of study, and how it feels to sit in a college classroom for lecture. Thank you Dr. Louden and Calhoun Community College for welcoming LCHS HOSA to your campus today. We have many memories to share with our peers. We had a fantastic day!

We can all help to prevent su***de. Every year, the Lifeline and other medical organizations around the world raise awareness for su***de during September. The goal is to spread hope and share information to people. We all have to ensure that our friends and families have access to the resources they need to seek help.
