1. Do not race your car’s engine during start-up. This is a quick way to add years of wear to your engine.
2. Warming the engine by letting it idle in the driveway is not a smart idea because it doesn’t operate at its peak temperature, resulting in incomplete fuel combustion, soot deposits on cylinder walls, oil contamination, and ultimately damaged components.
3. Put less strain on your engine and automatic transmission by shifting to neutral at red lights. Otherwise, the motor will still be working to push the car even while it’s stopped.
4. Avoid driving at high speeds and accelerating quickly, especially when it’s very hot or icy outside.

Tire rotation is simply switching tires in front to rear rotation in order to extend the tire mileage. Every time tires are rotated, increased gas mileage, tread preservation and an improvement in the overall performance of a car, truck or SUV is realized. Not having tire rotations regularly, can cause premature tire wear or tire failure.
Rotations should be done routinely in order for the tread to wear evenly on all tires. This inexpensive service will save time and money, and can easily be done alongside our other services, such as a scheduled maintenance.
Prevent uneven tire wear by having your tires regularly rotated by professional mechanics at your local McWhorter Tire & Auto.

Transmission problems are among the most expensive repairs required for your vehicle. That's because the transmission is a complex system of gears that transmit mechanical power to your engine, ultimately determining the speed of travel. Transmissions convert this power from the engine so that it can supply high torque at low speeds and select which gears are appropriate based on the driving conditions.

FUN FACT FRIDAY:
Did you know that the rubber that tires are made with is naturally white? Carbon black is added to tire rubber to increase its durability and strength of the rubber. It also reduces hot spots on the tires.
Budget tires are inexpensive due to lower mileage ratings, lasting only to 30,000 miles vs. 60,000 to 80,000 miles for premium tire brands. Budget tires also have lower speed ratings, which many drivers see and assume that if they don't drive near that speed, they can afford a lower quality tire at a lower speed rating. Yet, speed ratings really translate into braking distance (how long it takes to come to a complete stop). Premium tires are safer and translate into better performance in wet and less-than-ideal conditions.
Cheap tires can be a great way to save money, but you'll need to be extra careful. Compromising the safety and frequency of tire replacement in the long term could be more money out of your pocket. Remember, safety is more important than savings!

Most drivers ignore this, but if you don't clean your windshields, the dirt and particle can accumulate and scratch the windshield when you use the wipers, which can be a severe hazard for you and others while driving.

Slick roads caused by ice and snow to cold temperatures that can wreak havoc on certain parts of vehicles, even a simple commute to work or school may become a more treacherous activity.
Protect yourself and your family with these 3 tips to prepare for winter:
1. Check your tread - Checking your own tread depth by sticking a penny upside-down in one of the grooves, and if President Lincoln's entire head is visible, it's time to replace your tires.
2. Rotate tires often - Tires should be rotated every 6,000 miles, or earlier if irregular or uneven wear develops. This means you have to rotate tires every other time you get your oil changed.
3. Invest in good winter tires because they're designed to maintain better gripping capabilities and traction in colder conditions, winter tires provide more control than all-season tires in situations involving snow, ice and low temperatures.

Technology is everywhere now, especially in the automotive industry. According to a recent project, manufacturers would be required to include technology to monitor whether US drivers are impaired by alcohol and to disable the vehicle from operating. Vehicles can make many sounds, and sometimes it’s hard to understand where they come from.
If you hear a rattling and scraping coming from underneath your car, truck or SUV, it might be a driveline problem. This system transmits power from the car engine and delivers proper torque to the wheels. If these components go out of balance, your driveshaft can vibrate excessively.
A shaking car is not only jarring to you and your passengers but leads to accelerated wear on other driveline components. As per the domino effect, different systems of your car will also be affected.
If you believe you’re dealing with this, call us toll-free at 1-800-288-9073 mcwhortertire.com
Do you see those imprinted patterns on the tires that leave marks on the ground when you drive on dry soil or mud? They’re known as tire treads, and they play a significant role whenever you want to drive in all weather conditions. Suffice to say, always make sure you check the tread depth before you drive that car. If the tires are too smooth, you’re more likely to slide, and that’s something we want to avoid when driving.
We’ve always ensured an optimal service for our customers, and now we take special care in maintaining everything clean. We’re glad that you guys are noticing it! mcwhortertire.com
