Budget tires also have lower speed ratings, which many drivers see and assume that if they don't drive near that speed, they can afford a lower quality tire at a lower speed rating. Yet, speed ratings really translate into braking distance (how long it takes to come to a complete stop). Premium tires are safer and translate into better performance in wet and less-than-ideal conditions.
