Not all honeysuckles are created equal. The top photos show a native honeysuckle vine, Trumpet or coral honeysuckle (Lonicera sempervirens) which is beloved by hummingbirds, butterflies, and bees. Arkansas is also home to another native vining-type honeysuckle, the yellow honeysuckle (Lonicera flava) as well.

The bottom photos are of Japanese honeysuckle vine (Lonicera japonica), an introduced species which is now considered among the top five invasive plants in Arkansas. Two imported shrub-type honeysuckle species, Amur honeysuckle (Lonicera maackii) and Tatarian Honeysuckle (Lonicera tatarica) are considered invasive in Northwest Arkansas particularly. Invasive honeysuckles outcompete native species and cause distress to our forests and ecosystems as well as to the homeowners and landowners trying to eliminate them.

When choosing honeysuckle as a landscape plant, be sure to select non-invasive or native varieties. šŸšŸ¦‹šŸŒæ

Let's be supportive folks :)

This is for all the vendors and customers of Farmer's Market on garrison Avenue. If you love all the produce that is available at the farmer's Market but don't always have time to shop, I have your solution.

I have a website called Arkhola Locally Grown that allow all you vendors to list all of your goods for sale and keep inventory for you as well. As a vendor, you decide what to show for sale, what price to sell it and what photos you wish to put, if any. For you buyers, you can log on, see what each producer has to offer this week, place your orders online and make one fast 5 minute stop on Friday or Saturday (to be determined what works out best for everyone) and pick up your goods.

There are no sign up fees right now for anyone, vendor or customer. We only ask a small percentage of sales to help cover software licensing, local overhead and costs. March 18 we will officially open. Here is a brief overview of how it works.

By Sunday, vendors check to make sure of their inventory and what they are offering for the following week. On Monday, all customers will receive an email of all the vendors offerings. Online orders wil be taken until Wednesday night. On Thursday, all vendors will receive an email of what has been ordered from you on the site. You have Thursday and Friday to harvest. On Friday, vendors will deliver their sold goods to one central location and that afternoon or whatever time has been established, customers can stop by and pick up their orders. Delivery can be make for a small fee of about $5.

By the first of May, we will also be promoting this site to chefs in the area and offering delivery of produce and goods to the restaurants allowing these establishments to be able to take advantage of ordering farm fresh produce and quality meats.

Visit today to sign up as a customer or a vendor and help promote locally grown foods. http://arkhola.locallygrown.net
