𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐢𝐬 𝐟𝐨𝐨𝐝 𝐜𝐨𝐥𝐨𝐫𝐚𝐧𝐭 𝐄𝟏𝟏𝟎?

Food colorant E110, also known as Sunset Yellow FCF, is a synthetic dye commonly used to give a yellow-orange hue to various food and beverages.

According to the Department of Information of Malta, following the Food Safety Act and Regulation (EC) No. 178/2002 of the European Parliament and Council, the Environmental Health Directorate under the Superintendence of Public Health advises the public against consuming certain starch-based snacks. These products contain food coloring E110, listed on the label but unauthorized for use in them.

Most of products mentioned are originated from the Philippines.

𝐂𝐀𝐒𝐓𝐞𝐜𝐡 𝐀𝐕𝐑 𝐄𝐯𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐇𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐥𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭𝐬: 𝐁𝐒𝐅𝐓 𝐒𝐭𝐮𝐝𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐬 𝐟𝐫𝐨𝐦 𝐏𝐒𝐀𝐔 𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐜𝐥𝐮𝐝𝐞 𝟑-𝐏𝐚𝐫𝐭 𝐖𝐞𝐛𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐫.

Excitement filled the virtual halls of CASTech AVR today as the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) hosted the final day of a three-part webinar. Attending with enthusiasm were the bright BS Food Technology (BSFT) students from Pampanga State Agricultural University (PSAU).

The last day covered vital aspects – Mandatory Labelling Requirements, Packaging Design Concepts, and Understanding Nutrition Facts. A deep dive into these topics provided invaluable insights for the future food technologists.

As the virtual curtain descended on the webinar series, participants, particularly the BSFT students, celebrated the wealth of knowledge gained. The event fostered a collaborative environment, nurturing connections and sparking curiosity among the attendees.

Today's webinar at CASTech AVR, hosted by DOST, delved into the intricacies of Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP). The event was attended by enthusiastic students from Pampanga State Agricultural University's BSFT program.

The BSFT students actively engaged in the webinar, absorbing valuable insights and knowledge about GMP. The teachings were not just theoretical but provided practical applications crucial in the field.

The event became a platform for students to learn and adopt the latest industry practices, enhancing their understanding of how GMP plays a pivotal role in ensuring the quality and safety of products.

The students strive to integrate these teachings into their coursework and future careers, today's event served as a stepping stone for them to stay updated on industry standards and practices.

Through the combined efforts of the SOFT officers and the faculty of the PSAU Department if Food Sciences, PSAU Student Organization of Food Technology (SOFT) is now accredited as one of the newest addition to the student chapters of the Philippine Association of Food Technologists.

Student Organization of Food Technology will now take the name Philippine Association of Food Technologists - PSAU Chapter (PAFT-PSAU).

We at the organization would like to thanks everyone who make this achievement possible. Rest assured that we will continue to work hard towards the betterment of our students - our future food technologists

LOOK: Faculty of the PSAU Department of Food Sciences have successfully conducted a benchmarking activity at the Institute of Food Science and Technology, University of the Philippines Los Baños.

The said benchmarking activity was conducted as part of the department's planning and preparation of establishing its own Sensory Evaluation Laboratory and Food Pilot Plant to comply with the PRC-BFT's requirements. More than that, to provide a conducive training grounds for students, faculty and other stakeholders.

The department would like to thank the Institute of Food Science and Technology, College of Agriculture and Food Science, UPLB for allowing them to conduct the said activities.
