Ran across this photo and it raised some serious concerns about the standards being followed for traffic control and safety. Let's break down what's wrong here:

1. Uniform Standards: The uniform worn here does not meet the required standards for visibility and safety. Proper reflective gear is essential for ensuring that flaggers are seen by drivers, especially in low-light conditions.

2. Hard Hat: Hard hats must be correctly secured to provide the necessary protection against potential hazards on the job. High visible colors ensures that flaggers are seen

3. Flagger Position: The individual’s flagger position and posture are not ideal. Proper flagging techniques are critical to managing traffic flow safely and effectively, reducing the risk of accidents.

4. Stop/Slow paddle: Retro reflectivity is mandated in specific states; Maryland etc

This picture is a stark reminder of a bigger issue: the importance of thorough and hands-on training for all safety personnel. When lives are at stake, it's not enough to merely go through the motions of certification. In-person training ensures that each individual is fully equipped with the knowledge and skills needed to perform their duties safely and effectively.

We must prioritize the quality of training over the quantity of certifications issued. It's about taking pride in the service we provide and ensuring that every flagger on the job is properly trained and prepared. The safety of our communities depends on it.

Let's commit to high standards, proper training and be the solution not an underline problem under the perception of doing good– anything less is simply unacceptable.

Traffic deaths fell 3.2% in the first quarter of 2024, the eighth consecutive quarterly decline, according to a new NHTSA estimate (https://crashstats.nhtsa.dot.gov/Api/Public/ViewPublication/813598). While this progress is good news, fatalities remain above pre-pandemic levels.

People walking and rolling are among the most vulnerable road users. Tomorrow, GHSA will release a new report offering a first look at pedestrian fatalities by state and analyzing federal data to highlight trends regarding when, where and how drivers strike and kill people walking. Stay tuned for the full report and data analysis on Wednesday.

🚧 Let's Raise the Bar for Traffic Control Training!🚧

As we celebrate National Safety Month, it's a perfect time to reflect on the importance of our roles in maintaining safe and efficient traffic control.

To all our dedicated traffic control professionals: please, let’s not be the ones seeking the most inexpensive method of training options but demanding the highest pay rates and delivering the lowest performance. Our work is crucial for the safety of drivers, pedestrians, and our fellow workers.

By investing in top-notch training, we not only enhance our skills but also uphold the integrity and safety standards of our profession. Let's take pride in what we do and commit to continuous improvement. After all, the quality of our work directly impacts the safety of our communities.

Together, let's elevate the standard of traffic control and honor the spirit of National Safety Month. 🚩🛑🚧

Juneteenth marks a significant milestone in the journey toward freedom and equality. Just as this day reminds us of the importance of liberation, our work in temporary traffic control ensures freedom of movement and safety on the roads.

Both Juneteenth and traffic control underscore the value of structure, respect, and care for our community. Let's honor the past while ensuring a safer future for everyone on the job site and beyond.

“Flaggers play a crucial role in ensuring the safety and efficiency of construction work zone sites, controling traffic, and safeguarding workers and motorists. The responsibility of a flagger is substantial, as they are entrusted with the safety of all those present on the site. To meet the demands of this critical role, in-person training is of paramount importance, particularly for first-time flaggers”
