innovative approach to sustainable boating has generated massive international attention, and the Candela P-12, is no exception. The zero emission, 12 metre passenger shuttle is built using a full carbon fibre and epoxy construction, resulting in a low vessel weight that allows Candela to provide operators with capacity for 30 passengers and a range of up to 60 nautical miles at 25 knots. Intended to replace larger, slower, fossil-fuelled ships, the P-12 uses 80% less energy than a conventional ferry whilst producing no local emissions and removing the risk of fuel or oil spillages.

The P-12 has been developed using the same high-performance DNV-GL type approved Sicomin resins and adhesives as the previous Candela models. Sicomin’s SR1710 epoxy infusion resin produces extremely high laminate mechanical properties and delivers excellent performance in hot and wet conditions, critical for such a lightweight foiling craft.

Sicomin’s premium epoxy adhesive, Isobond SR7200HTG is also used extensively in the P12 construction for bonding of the carbon fibre hull’s internal structure and final assembly of the vessel’s composite components. Suitable for both thick and thin bond lines, SR7200HTG provides superior bonding performance and is particularly resistant to micro-cracking in long term fatigue.

This years highlights will include: - the launch of two new GreenPoxy products. - our 40 year cocktail party on the Sicomin stand at 5.30pm, Wednesday
- the display of a number of stunning applications including: Composite beam sections from the Real Madrid stadium, the new Salomon snowboard, and an Aston Martin AMB 001
- the GreenBoats Flax 27 will also be on display on the Industry Innovation Planet See you next week!!

12/04/2023

To celebrate our 40th anniversary, we are delighted to announce that we will launch two new additions to our market leading, bio-based range of GreenPoxy resins at JEC World 2023.

Developed primarily for processes such as hand and vacuum-consolidated lamination, the first new resin, GreenPoxy 170, is ideal for the manufacture of structural parts and for joining or re-laminating prepreg-based, infused and wet-laid parts. GreenPoxy 170 is a low-toxicity system that demonstrates impressive resistance to thermomechanical stress and 33% of its carbon content is sourced from sustainable bio-sources.

GreenPoxy InfuGreen 171, meanwhile, is a high-modulus, low-viscosity bio-resin designed for the manufacture of structural components using both infusion and resin-transfer moulding (RTM) processes. Possessing excellent mechanical performance, InfuGreen 171 takes 35% of its carbon content from sustainable bio-sources.

For further information, please DM us for a meeting or see us at JEC, Hall 6, Stand G43.

Crosscall's cockpit was designed to be effectively non-structural, with the mainsheet, which can generate huge shock loads, supported separately. This allowed the cockpit to be made from a hybrid biaxial fabric comprising 50% flax fibres. Other parts of the boat that incorporate flax fibre include the tunnel, the engine cover, the ballast tanks and the cap. The rest of the boat is reinforced with 100% glass-fibre fabrics.

To help it realise this ambitious design, Grand Largue Composites turned to us as their long-time material supplier. The hull was moulded and infused in one piece and the deck – including the hybrid flax-fibre cockpit – was also infused as a single part. The internal structure was then laminated into the hull by hand, before the hull and deck were finally bonded together.

The main infusion resin selected was our SR 1710, a high-modulus structural epoxy, whilst our strong, low-toxicity SR 8200 was used to laminate the internal structures onto the skin of the hull. The hull and deck were then joined together with Isobond SR 7100, which demonstrates extremely high fatigue strength and is very resistant to microcracking.

We are delighted to confirm that eco-surfboard specialist notoxsurf will use GreenPoxy 56 in its latest line of R-CARBON boards. The new NOTOX R-CARBON boards are the first to use 100% upcycled carbon fibre fabrics recovered from a production waste stream at Airbus.

NOTOX has partnered with Sicomin to use GreenPoxy bio-resins in several earlier flax, cork, and bamboo reinforced boards. In a quest to now produce the most sustainable carbon fibre reinforced boards, NOTOX has signed a formal agreement with Airbus Nantes to purchase defective carbon fabrics that were destined for landfill.

“At NOTOX our mission is to produce the most ethical and sustainable boards. Providing great mechanical performance, a high plant-based carbon content, and a low carbon footprint due to local manufacturing, GreenPoxy 56 is a good solution for our new R-CARBON technology,” said Pierre Pomiers, President, NOTOX.

The NOTOX R-CARBON board will be on display on the Sicomin booth at JEC World 2022, Stand G43 in Hall 6. đŸ€đŸ™ŒđŸ„đŸ»â€â™‚ïž

Welcome to the Future!

Photos from GreenPoxy's post 28/02/2022

We are so very proud to have supported the build of Dubai’s Museum of the Future! 🙌 Sicomin supplied its innovative bio-based intumescent gelcoat and fire-retardant laminating resins for the production of over 200 double curved panels making up the interior of the Museum’s stunning entrance lobby.

The Museum of the Future, aka 'The Most Beautiful Building on Earth', is a stunning new addition to Dubai’s skyline by architects Killa Design, engineers Buro Happold and contractor BAM International.

Advanced Fiberglass Industries (AFI) manufactured 230 double curved interior panels, a unique double-helix DNA structure staircase that scales the full seven levels of the museum and 228 oval shaped light structures for the museums car parking area.

With a challenging structural and fire safety specification defined, Sicomin’s bio-based SGi128 intumescent gelcoat and SR1122 fire retardant laminating epoxy were chosen for the panels, an additional advantage being that in addition to high fire properties, SGi 128 is also formulated with over 30% carbon from renewable sources, reducing the final carbon footprint significantly.

Lightweight holding power! 👊 ⚓Sicomin has collaborated with Crazy Lobster Composites and Guy Royer to create a new lightweight carbon fibre racing yacht anchor!

Conceived by Guy Royer, renowned designer and inventor of the FOB range of anchors, and manufactured by Breton composite specialists Crazy Lobster Composites, the new carbon fibre anchors weigh as little as one third of the weight of their steel alternatives and deliver the same holding power due to their patented geometry that allows them to dig firmly into the seabed.

Ideal as a lightweight back-up anchor, or as the primary anchor onboard weight conscious racing yachts, the new composite anchors are faster to deploy as well as being easier and safer to move around the yacht.

Crazy Lobster carbon anchors, which are infused with Sicomin’s Greenpoxy Infugreen 810 and reinforced with either carbon or flax and glass reinforcement fibres, have been successfully tested by top racers, with Antoine Carpentier racing with a Crazy Lobster anchor aboard his yacht ‘Redman', winner of the European Class 40 trophy.

The Russian Orthodox spiritual and cultural centre, named the ‘Holy Trinity Cathedral’, is a stunning addition to the 7th arrondissement in Paris. An official UNESCO World Heritage site, the building is located in the same district as the Eiffel Tower and Quai Branly Museum and sits majestically on the Left bank of the River Seine.

The 4,800 sq. metre cathedral took two years to complete and opened in October 2016. The structure features five gilded domes, a parish centre, offices and apartments, a French-Russian primary school and a cultural centre.

Sicomin delivered a complete package of composite materials to produce both moulds and parts for the 5 gilded domes. Working alongside Multiplast (part of the Carboman Group), main contractor Bouygues and engineering consultants Calcul MĂ©ca, Sicomin was able to support in realising architect Jean-Michel Wilmotte’s stunning contemporary design for the Russian Orthodox Cultural and Spiritual Centre in central Paris.
