Congrats to Gwen Lau for winning the ‘On The Spot’ award for her amazing earrings! Keep shining, Gwen!
Dear SubZero,
Thank you for everything.
The rest of the week was filled with good times, team bonding, and lessons learned. As much as we love bettering ourselves and dreaming of our next rocket, we had to take advantage of the landscape. White Sands, the missile museum, star gazing, and water parks. What a way to end the week.
We ended our trip with what we went for in the first place: rockets!! The awards ceremony was a blast! Thank you Experimental Sounding Rocket Association for a great awards ceremony and congratulations to all of the teams for their awards!

LAUNCH DAY!!!!
On Wednesday June 19th the team woke up bright and early (2 a.m to be exact). Luckily we got a good spot in line which helped us get an early start to our final assembly.
Once fully assembled, the team took SubZero to a near-perfect flight safety check. Then onto the rail and wait for the big moment.
Our rocket performed a beautiful flight and reached our expected apogee. Unfortunately our parachutes did not deploy as expected.
There are so many new ideas for the team to improve our rocket for future years. Stay tuned to keep up with our adventures!
Over the past week Bulldog Rocketry travelled 30 hours to Las Cruces, New Mexico to compete in the 2024 Spaceport America Cup Competition. It was a hectic and thrilling week. We want to take the time now to recap our adventures and show you what we accomplished.
On Saturday, June 15th, we left Duluth bright and early. We soon made it to New Mexico on Sunday after a long night of nonstop driving.
Monday, our first day of competition. We checked in our mentors, team, and our rocket, “SubZero”. We also took a big group photo with all of the other rocketeers competing. To finish off the night we worked hard to finish up our final paint and decal designs to keep our rocket looking top tier.
Tuesday, tabling day. Showing off our knowledge and how hard we worked over the past year is one of the most exciting things for us to do. We are very proud of each and every member for being so knowledgeable and hard working.
Come back tomorrow for more about our exciting journey in the New Mexico heat.

“Do not let your fire go out, spark by irreplaceable spark in the hopeless swamps of the not-quite, the not-yet, and not-at-all. Do not let the hero in your soul perish in lonely frustration for the life you deserved and have never been able to reach. The world you desire can be won. It exists… it is real… it is possible… it’s yours.” - Ayn Rand, Atlas Shrugged

“All I can say is work hard and have fun. Figure out what is missing; be that thing. Get uncomfortable; do things you've never done. The world won't change; you must adapt to what is needed of you. Grow, but grow in such a way that benefits others. Whatever you do, no matter how much it sucks, try to enjoy it. Lastly, seek truth. There's only one out there. When you find it, you'll soar higher than any rocket could.” - Logan Iverson
Congratulations to our Space Grant team on a successful launch! Thank you to Dr Flaten for all his help with this project. Also, we would love to congratulate Jose (our incredible Academic Advisor) on achieving his Level 2 Tripoli Certification! What a weekend for successful launching!

Our Story
In the last five years, Bulldog Rocketry has participated in the Midwest High-Power Rocketry Competition in North Branch, MN and have won 3 out of the 5 years. During those years we have developed a tradition in reaching out to the community and teaching others about rockets in a fun way at various events. Last year, our team designed a 20 foot Aluminum solid motor rocket that flew 22,000 feet and placed 2nd in the International Rocket Engineering Competition for the 2018 Spaceport America Cup in Las Cruces, NM. This year we are going for FIRST!
