End of an era! Today marks the last Poet's Corner on BBC Radio York. In February 2021 BBC Radio York asked me to be their 'Poet Laureate.' 33 months later I have shared over 100 poems on the radio. It has been so much fun and a huge honour.
This all came about in the first place because of BBC Upload.(highly recommend!) In summer 2020 I entered BBC Upload with a spoken word piece 'the lockdown conversation.' It was first played on BBC Radio York and then to my surprise it was chosen to be played nationally on BBC iplayer.
Coming full circle I shared it again today on the last show as a little trip down memory lane π₯Ί
Thank you BBC Radio York and huge huge HUGE thank you to Harry Whittaker and producer Richard for being such incredible support for the last 3 years ππ

EXCITING NEWS! πππ The audio book is ready for your ears! π I so hope you enjoy listening as much as I loved writing and reading the poems.

footsteps are the heartbeat

Running is so much more than fitness. Running is meditation, problem solving, creativity, making friends, comfy socks.
Running is inhaling forest air, learning how to breathe, getting lost on the trails and getting lost in your own thoughts.
Running is rhythm, focus, tuning out the noise.
Running is learning how to be comfortable with the uncomfortable.
Running is achieving more than you ever thought you could.
Running is putting one foot in front of the other, again and again and again.

Exciting news: I have completed & passed my Running Coaching course with England Athletics and I am now an official coach! WOO!
Yesterday team Yolk Farm Kitchen & Minskip Farm Shop completed the Yorkshire 3 Peaks challenge to raise money for the Yorkshire Air Ambulance πͺπ 24 miles in distance and 5200ft of climbing...
Here is a small extract from the poem "It's just a little walk." Inspired by Leigh who kept our spirits high on the 24 mile challenge.
"It's just a little walk he said
A joyful little stroll
He bought an apple and kitcat
And shoes without a sole
It's just a little walk he said
To the Greatest Showman tune
It's only three Yorkshire hills
So it'll be over soon"
12 hours later, it was over - we did it πͺππ₯ we are aiming to raise Β£10,000 this year. If anyone is able to donate to help support this life saving charity it would be so appreciated π

Today is World IBD Day so I thought I would do a lil awareness post. For myself, it also marks 1 year of being medication free π I can't believe it. I had been on immunosuppressants for 13 years and now...nothing! (left photo 2020 - mentally and physically broken. Right photo - now, 12kg heavier and loving life) I was diagnosed with crohn's disease aged 14 and it has been quite the journey. I will have this illness for the rest of my life, but right now, it doesn't define me. I am feeling happier, healthier and stronger than ever. I have never written a poem about the illness before, but I thought, maybe now is the time?
I have written thousands of words
I have written thousands of rhymes
poem after poem
passing the time
poems for heartbreak
written at night
poems for poemsβ sake
for love and for light
poems for seasons
for the winter blue
but I had no words
to write about you
I wasnβt ready to write about the pain
the shame
the fear
the stolen time
and how you made my teenage bones
crumble
tumble into a bleak
space where I felt
nothing
until now
the days are sweeter
my bones are stronger
my stomach is softer
my smile is wider
my laugh is louder
my poem has
something to say β
to anyone in the
darkest space,
I know,
youβll be ok
Huge thank you to Jamesβ€οΈ, my dear friends, my loving family, my dietician and therapist who changed my life and of course, thank you to poetry.

It's been a busy few weeks but my mind is still in India.
This poem, titled 'sunrise'
the sunrise is yawning
over watercolour mountains
poetry in the sky
the sunrise is the morning
a tangerine heart beat
rising up high
the world is unfolding
time passing by
I think of the universe
without asking why
for a moment I thought of nothing
knowing this is everything

Yesterday I walked 15 miles in prep for the Yorkshire 3 Peaks challenge next month with my work friends at Minskip Farm Shop Yolk Farm Kitchen βΊοΈ inspired by the beautiful scenery on yesterday's walk, I couldn't resist writing a poem too!
The Yorkshire 3 peaks is 24 miles with 5200ft of ascent which we aim to complete in under 12 hours. We are raising money for the amazing, life saving charity Yorkshire Air Ambulance π any donations would be hugely appreciated ππ our just giving page is here:

Thank you! ππ
we are shadows in the city
trapped like a frog in a well
unable to tell the difference between having and being
observing and seeing
we are shadows in the city
We are sunlight in the mountains
We are the breath in the sky
We are the blood of the rainstorm
We are Mother Ganga's cry
We are the sweet mango nectar
We are the green, the blue, the white
In the mountains we are alive
In the mountains we are light

Today I am flying out to India π¬π§‘βοΈI will be coming off social media for the month to fully embrace the experience β¨This trip was actually booked for 2020, but not only did the pandemic stop this, I was also too poorly and too weak to travel.
