Within our webinar today, the third one ,in our series "European Legumes in Transition" we had great speakers and presentations.
Topics were the transparency of the legume markets, world trade in legumes and trading pulses in the UK. We got to know four examples of highly coordinated legume value chains in Switzerland, France and Portugal. Bohnikat a company in Berlin presented their products and its bean market. And finally, we learned about the importance of quality for the development of legume markets and value chains.

During our second webinar of the webinar series "European Legumes in Transition" we had a lot of great speakers and got to know different farm networks and legume cultivation systems in different countries in Europe. Also there are a lot of interesting innovations coming from EU-Projects like the LEG-Box, Ecosystem service potential of legumes, legumes in intercropping and many more...
In the final discussion one conlusion was that
transition is not only between science and farmers but one has to look at the socio-economic context e.g. Markets and Society. Thus, it is a very complexe system.

Christian Huyghe, scientific director of Agriculture at INRAE since 2010, spoke about the general context favourable to the development of legumes, agroecology and sustainable food systems. Good news: Legumes are addressing most of the key challenges of agri-food systems.

EU Food & Farming presented recent EU initiatives on the development of plant proteins and pointed out that key activities for the promotion of protein plants are a fruitful knowledge exchange and to set up a European Platform that brings actors together.

EU Food & Farming outlined the political and R&I framework for legumes in future in order to achieve agricultural and environmental objectives and the role of R&I on legumes and protein crops.

TRUE is a research project under Horizon 2020, the European Union's Framework Programme for Research and Innovation which aims to identify the best routes, or “transition paths” to increase sustainable legume cultivation and consumption across Europe.
