A new season is here, the autumnal equinox is approaching. Seven years ago today, 'Tenebrosum' made landfall after an arduous journey through the outer darkness. “Heroic epics are about remembering; Tenebrosum is about oblivion, being forgotten and disappearing," writes DC Heavy Metal.

On 2015's 'Tenebrosum' we were tapping into our most melancholic and doom-laden influences. Yet, we viewed this album as an elaboration and continuation of our previous effort, 'Solar'.

According to Angry Metal Guy, "Tenebrosum fuses blackened extremity with folky subtlety into a very compelling package which I can thoroughly recommend to any fan of black metal."

"Solar" turns 10 YEARS old this month! Originally self-released in 2012—and dedicated to the memory of a late friend—it was repressed in 2019 by Canadian label PRC Music. "Solar" was a sonic readjustment for the band and ventured deeper into emotional territories than our debut "Tribus". It set the tone for our future. We played a good chunk of shows on heels of this release. "A Glimpse of Light", "In the Shadow of Giants" and "The Morning Star" were staples in our set for quite a while (and remain in rotation today). Time marches on... Cheers to 10 years!

Album Review - Windfaerer - "Breaths of Elder Dawns"

Encased in existence and surrounded by the towering monoliths of reality, it is a natural and raw desire for ascension that is likely to overcome every single one of us. Yet, for now, we remain stuck in the furrows of time and infiltrate our minds with the escapism and the overwhelming liberation of "Breaths of Elder Dawns".

Solitary, smoothed synths implore a folklore tremolo that withers in the dying embers of the fire before sparking into the rasping, bleak chords steeped in the ashes of those who have fallen long before. With an ear to the flames, there lies a gut-wrenching, wounded bellow hurled from a life-starved stomach and balancing on the edge of salutary solo flourishes, weeping violin cascades and bagpipe heraldry.

Acoustic strums shimmer in the deep glow of the forest floor and illuminate an undiscovered realm. Softly picked higher strings dart amongst the gloom of the trees before relenting and permitting the dark, distorted arpeggios to once again blister the cold, starless skies. Rolling, wholesome percussion employs the array of the full kit and switches between the strung-out beating vibrancy of classical doom, the blasting chaotic pummelling of extreme metal and the off-kilter swing of avant-garde crossings.

Using the split twines of moroseness and fabled exhilaration that form the ancient heart of the folk sound, "Breaths of Elder Dawns" injects a black metal majesty with frosty distortion, passages with rapidly attacked chords backed up with drums that get blast beaten to pieces and torturously high screams. A post-hardcore taint is brought forth from the dryness of the screams and specific style of melodies hidden within the guitar work to create a holistic and immersive trek. Experimentation embeds itself deeply in the range of post-sub genres on offer and even succumbs to the unrepentant use of both woodwind and strings that sit unblemished against the electrifying scorch of distinctly fist-pumping heavy metal solo flares. The use of a voice that sits in the raw, unapologetic halls of hardcore only adds yet another blaze within this intriguing firelight vigil.

"Breaths of Elder Dawns" takes the oldest of forms and spins it within the most classical and the most extreme that imagination can summon. Never once losing its way, the tangibility of each track is palpable and it leaves nothing but a sweet yet unfamiliar taste on the palette.

Last week the venerable Black Metal Promotion premiered our latest album "Breaths of Elder Dawns" on their YouTube channel. Everything was going well, streaming as planned, until the video was flagged and taken down by the algorithm set in place by our digital distributor. This is the reason the video is currently "unavailable" on YouTube. We're doing our best to get everything back up and running on the stream. We're frustrated that this even happened and it has been a wet blanket tossed upon our promo cycle for the album. Very disappointing, but s**t happens. We're hoping the video will be back up any time now for your streaming pleasure. We're left in the dark on exactly when.

On a positive note, we want to thank you for all of your comments and feedback thus far. A huge thank you to those who have pre-ordered the record. Check back for more updates.
