I’ve been dying to rework some of my older paintings. For a long time, I had to produce art at a rapid pace to keep showing and selling enough to support Echo and myself. There as so many pieces with really strong concepts that I just didn’t get to execute very well.

I decided to repaint HUSH a few months ago. Originally this piece was about the literal and figurative silencing of women’s voices that has been intrinsic in western civilization. This new version was darkened by the extra shadow of the g*n*cide in Palestine. 53-69% of those m*ssacred were women and children. Then, the youth of America protest //like they’re supposed to// and are mocked? Called thugs and brats? Just like always.
Don’t let anyone shut you up. No part of your identity—least of all your s*x or gender—precludes you from having a voice in this world. Yes THIS world, this violent, hateful world. This ‘the most important title a woman can hold is homemaker’ world. This ‘two state solution’ world.
People can do anything to your body—break your bones, throw you in prison—but your mind is always free. Even when they tell you you’re weak or hysterical or dumb, when they put a hand over your mouth or on your lower back, you can be free.
Scream it if you believe it.

Sketched out this idea last night. She has Jesus’ wound from the Holy Lance, but it’s her breast implant scar. And of course, a crown of injectables. I want to make this a larger painting at some point but sometimes you gotta put it on paper first to make sure it doesn’t suck!!

A tiny 4x6 commission, acrylic and gouache on hot press paper in a hand embellished frame! I tried some weird stuff with this commission and reworked it quite a bit (after losing and re-discovering it in storage!) the wings are White 2.0 and !! The frame, like the wings and hair, I painted in an inverted gradient: instead of darker recessed and lighter highlights, I painted the frame a very light blue with the high points dark Klein blue and a little brush of iridescent aqua to match the stars in the sky around this kinky angel.

This 8x10” commission portrait from a while back was SO CHALLENGING! I had some great photos of a very beautiful person to work from, plus a few clues about what should be included, but it was still quite a struggle (especially capturing those tattoos! Phew!)
I absolutely love commissions, and portraits especially, although it’s much harder to capture a likeness in an original composition than it is to just wing it. 😅
I am ALWAY taking commissions (deadlines highly variable) of all sizes, but my shop has conveniently pre-priced unfinished small frames with the option for ‘Heart’s Desire’ (tell me what you want) or ‘Dealer’s Choice’ (leave it up to me and my whims.)
This portrait was a rare instance where I didn’t refinish the frame entirely. I touched up the gold and dark wash, but sometimes antiques are perfect the way they are!

Many years ago I worked primarily with spray paint. Sometimes I would give demos, sometimes I would just paint live at art walks, sometimes I would do it in heels. I REALLY miss working with !!

I have a massive collection of small antique frames that I never seem to find use for, so I list them in my shøp empty and unfinished for a flat price with 2 options: Heart’s Desire or Dealer’s Choice. Either give me a prompt, or let me do whatever I feel like!
This was a Heart’s Desire commission of my favorite subject—devil girls. Prints will be available this weekend in Seattle, WA at the *xpo !!

The original Luna painting was a commission in a sketchbook art collection! A friend had been filling this handmade book with original art from a variety of artists for years. When I cracked my windshield and asked him to replace it for me, we worked out a trade: art in the book for new glass in my Jeep. I only had to fill one page but I couldn’t resist the centerfold!
Luna moths are ubiquitous in art & design these days, but growing up in North Florida they were just part of the landscape. Lunas only live long enough to fulfill the single purpose of mating, so they have no stomachs or mouths. They tend to die dramatically by flapping against your windows and doors at night and shredding their wings, so they can be sort of a nuisance and it’s rare to find one with its wings intact.
I can’t wait to get back to painting!

A very long time ago (11 years!) I made these pastel drawings on suede stretched over wood frames. I LOVE using unusual materials to make art~~mostly motivated by a lack of resources, I wound up using a lot odds and ends I had lying around or found at thrift stores. I’ve painted in glass plates, I’ve made paintings entirely out of Dollar Store nail polish, even salvaged roofing tiles from when my home was hit by a tornado. ‘Care Taker’ and ‘Let’s Just Keep This Between Us.’

showed up to the SLC *xpo in a TRULY OG skater skirt I designed almost 10 years ago!! The bjd painting was for the Doll Parts art show I curated at and I was experimenting with different clothing patterns and fabrics. Janna has been the recipient of MANY prototypes!!

C.R.E.A.M. 7x9 acrylic on illustration board in customized antique frame! 💵 I worked on this piece off and on for a YEAR, which is not my usual M.O. but I’m so happy I got to finish it the way I wanted.

It was the distant future, the year 2000. I got my first tattoo for my birthday and a month later took my best friend for her first tattoo on her birthday.

Back when I did a lot of 3-day conventions, I loved to pick up cheap art materials from Ross/TJMaxx and see what I could make with them over the course of a weekend. The last time I was at I drew this Demonatrix with really cheap twist-up watercolor pencils. They were such a hassle to use—really dry texture that didn’t blend and resistant to water. 💪🏼BUT I WOULDNT QUIT💪🏼 I sold the original sketch to another vendor and donated the pencils to my kids school when I got home!!

When I came to Orlando in 2011, was one of the first people I met who gave me a place in the galley scene. Over the years I came to expect that every time I turned around, she’d be there: Gallery show at City Arts? There’s Deena. Art festival? There’s Deena with a walkie. Spooky Empire? Deena with a megaphone. Horror con in North Carolina? HEY DEENA!
She had an inexhaustible way of giving everything her full attention and making everyone feel seen. Deena was totally in her element working behind the scenes, yet she radiated so much warmth and light it’s easy to see why to us, she was the star. I have never, ever in my life known anyone as tireless and open-hearted and as much a FRIEND.
I feel so incredibly lucky to have known Deena. I don’t know where I’d be without her turning the wheels of the ENTIRE creative community in Orlando. I wish I had one more chance to wrap her up in hugs, and gratitude, and sincere joy. Thank you for being you, Deena.
