Food recipes and cooking techniques to inspire you creatively and move your cooking to the next level

21/04/2024

I’m feeling this way most days. And today is even more awesome as I’ve just jogged 20 minutes in the park and so enjoying Cowboy Carter album. .

A more relaxing Sunday compared to previous weeks with a trip to the Farmers Market and a script to finish. Last week I was overcome with anxiety but after a day it went as I gave myself kindness and a good talking too. I approach projects I set for myself with an expectation to do my best and learn something new. And being proud of myself for taking risks and challenges. Sure it’s scary, but life is always changing so you gotta embrace it. Running .. well slow jogging one step at a time really helps me and my resolve. I don’t always get out but when I do I’m thankful.

Have a great sunny day y’all 🤠

Today was a cooking workshop for a neighbour who was having Jewish Passover Celebrations meals next week and wanted ideas to impress friends and family. So it was being inventive but still keeping to traditions and symbolism of ingredients and their meanings whilst delivering beautiful tasty dishes and sauces. A really interesting brief which I enjoyed as well as adding seasonality to chicken dishes and other ideas and demonstrating giving confidence to homecooks. They left with timelines and sauces and full bags and happy smiles.

Even their children and friends passing by wanted to join in.

Do you want a chef to inspire for family cooking workshops or lunch brunch dinner parties or traditional cultural family celebrations. Send me a DM as I’d love to help. 😀

It’s really nice showing and sharing techniques and my thought processes to others to inspire on your journey.

Using up bits and pieces from my fridge yesterday caught me putting some ideas together for a light super or brunch dish.

The base is wild garlic pesto with pea mash to lighten up the taste with charred Asparagus on top. I had some salmon which I pan fried wanting a crispy skin and then a boiled egg yolk on top topped with fish roe.

Remainder saved for weekday lunch along with some leftover roasties. - Hmm wonder what I could do with them 🤷🏾‍♂️

A great day with the bloody awesome workshop about photography lighting with actor in London’s docks as I sharpen my studio photography skills with new projects looming.

Felt like home again with fond memories of 20 years Yorkshire and Manchester and of course meeting other photographers being social talking about light, black and white film and equipment, yes nerdy and I loved it. 🤪

yer bloody brilliant mate 🥰 let’s go fly fishing together one day and cook outside on a makeshift bbq

I like to treat myself with scallops over Easter and this quick starter or main is quick and easy.

I like to gently score the scallops and simply fry with garlic, butter and a splash of white wine reducing nicely to a honey coloured burnt colour. I added fresh Samphire for the bite and salty crunch and had made some green miso sauce previously made which I drizzled over the lettuce. Very much a scallop lettuce sandwich with little fish eggs aka cavier added to make more luxury if you want to impress depending on budget from fishmongers or food stores £5.00+😀

Thank you to all the women whom I’ve photographed, the many charities and grassroots organisations actively supporting women in rights for reproductive, abortion, against s*x trafficking, refugee, disability, domestic violence, gender and civil rights over 10 years and to the families and survivors whom I’ve had the pleasure of working with, exchanging messages, support and love.

Thank you to all the women who have supported me on my many journeys. As women we have to make many journeys and paths to survive our hardships and I applaud you and thank you for your previous paths, inroads, and new journeys to come. Don’t be afraid to stop and pivot or to take a step back so you can put a tentative foot forward, everything is yours and it has been, has come and is coming. 🥰

Happy International Womens Day, thinking of all those pioneers in my life who have passed and whose legacies has endured to inspire and teach putting women at their centre.

It’s bloody cold outside but I think I almost ran off Friday nights takeaway and wine indulgences. It is also very beautiful outside with the frost and the dazzling sunshine. 😀

I feel like cooking today but have no idea yet what to do… think I’ll wait for to emerge although I know he will want to write and read as he got a new hardback ghost story book yesterday. So much to do even with relaxing things like cooking, shopping - food shopping obviously and reading. Usually about food although I do have scripts to read. That would be nice with a full English although I also have ripe plantains in the fridge… but really should be good and have porridge. Decisions, decisions.

Whatever you get up to, be kind to yourself and indulge a little bit, there’s always tomorrow…

Are you like this on a weekend or is it just me? 🤪😱🤷🏾‍♂️

Friday glamour with lashes, hair, big knickers and lipstick with nowhere to go.. thankfully my son was on hand to help me with todays scheduled model portfolio updates! 🥰🥰

I know I’m a backseat driver photographer having adjusted camera settings, lighting, backdrop, clothes, poses and styling but we got the job done having spent a week planning without this going to waste and my son stepped in to help his ole mum out. 🥰 First time with lash extensions done on Wednesday trying hard to not get them wet! In this weather!! Who Knew!

Job done now onto Scripts to learn before Monday and recipe development 😀

Good News!!

We’ve been busy sending drafts to horror sci-fi publishers for open submissions and out of the blue had an email about a short story competition he submitted that was unsuccessful, but the publishers loved his writing style and work and wanted to connect. With direct emails from Commissioning Editor that day he is now boosted, happy and writing more to finish his manuscript.

Thank you to all who reached out to help with kind words of encouragement, advice and likes on our pages to support us both on our mum and son acting journey and his writing journey.

Lots more writing and reading work to do, there is always work but this encouragement has helped him enormously. 🥰🥰🙏🏿🙏🏿🙏🏿💪🏾💪🏾

Thank you ❤️ Proud Mum. X

The sweetness of the prawns and the fragrant crispy Japanese Myoga ginger grated raw on top as well as charred in a pan, on a simple but now balanced black garlic sauce that took the best part of the afternoon to perfect.

Plated on one of my handmade ceramic plates, it was a pleasure to eat by myself alone and very happy, pleased at the results. I make the dish, recipe, the plate and the photography and enjoy the simple act of being inventive buying new ingredients from great producers and shops and creating my own culinary beauty from my tiny kitchen and table.

was out writing and hates seafood so it was lovely to enjoy an impromptu and discounted prawn purchase for myself although I was so hungry I didn’t video the results. He described the Myoga ginger as tasting like a crispy lettuce with a hint of ginger which I liked. Only has a hint of ginger and is so lovely I will certainly buy again.

I’m building on my portfolios and beyond excited working with creatives sharing great energy with collaborations for future projects.

I’m certainly enjoying being more social and producing art that makes me grow. This picture was taken last August. A lot has changed in those 6 months, but change is constant and you have to be prepared for it and adaptable.

Colour or black and white? I so love a black and white but love my presence in both.

Thank you for such fun on the shoot 🥰
Thank you to for the styling

I don’t quite know how I’ve managed to be busier in January having given up my very stressful full time job in finance asset mgmt as administrator juggling my portrait and protest photography, food writing, food recipes photography along with modelling career and acting auditions! All extras to pay the rent and to get back into doing creative full time! I just needed a break and a leg up to give up my job and survive consistently as mum and breadwinner !

People often say ‘I don’t know how you do it’, or ‘You’re doing too much you will burn out’ !! But am I working hard enough? Smart enough? PAH Of course and I AM enough. 20 years post divorce in London is a long time to bury my fashion label career to work in finance, making others an awful lot of money and I’ve always hustled evenings and weekends to survive.

I’m returning to myself with my soon to be 55 wisdom and my creativity that has matured like a good sauce, slowly simmering in all aspects of writing, photography, modelling, food, and acting. January has been an eye opener, daily training with 23 year olds 🤪 immersing myself in physical running, dance movement, improv, text, narratives, language, intention and literature. I am knackered mentally and physically but this is amazing work immersed in art and I LOVE it. It feeds into everything and improves every dish and recipe, shoot and audition whilst makes me do my own therapy analysing characters & relationships.

I’m beyond excited to have shoulder physio today as after drama school yesterday found a butcher and bought oxtail and goat!! Had to haul that in my rucksack up all the damn stairs to my tube. 🤪

Paths aren’t static, they become dusty and messy with quagmires and quicksand. We have to figure it out. Always walking, tentatively, sometimes a few steps back to take a few more forward. I’m all for striding then stopping to enjoy the view, maybe with a slow steady jog in parts along the way. Thank you so much for your love and support this week as it’s meant a lot to have your company.🥰

I’m walking to the tube thinking about my packed lunch and breakfast/elevenses. I’ve got leftover aubergine curry which I’m going to spruce up with micro greens after I microwave it. A couple of boiled eggs, avocado and hummus with bought fried onions sprinkled for crunch and young wasabi greens.

A cold clear morning is lovely with such brightness. Let’s hope I feel as happy after my commute on a strike day. Are you working from home today? More importantly what are you having for lunch? I’d love to know what’s in your box?🥰

I love a good breakfast and a poached egg on top of toast is a nice addition provided I get it right. It’s all in the details of a fresh egg, boiling water now simmering, a good size saucepan, a spoonful of cider or white wine vinegar, a good but gentle swirling of the water, the egg previously cracked in a small bowl, the small bowl placed in the swirling water within the saucepan. Watching how the whites wrap around itself and the yolk in the watery currents. The 3 - 4 minutes, the spider utensil to scoop up the egg, the jay cloth or kitchen towel to place the egg upon, the scissors to neaten the egg up. And then the placement on top of sourdough and then the anticipation.

If you swipe you will also see a soy cured egg 4 - 6 hours in the fridge.

Although by the time I finished the styling and photography it was way past breakfast, brunch or even lunch. Ate it anyway. 😀

I’ve been witnessing and thinking about this for some time now.

writes about it and in this society to get ahead killing your own, hurting and restricting your own to create dominance, is all too real in the places where there can only be one black or groups of blacks mimicking and perpetuating the behaviours of the privileged Massah.

Evil is within and outside. Look to thyself and your own behaviours.
