Jay Ubelhart for IBU President
Member involvement is the lever which moves the employers. We can accomplish great things when rank and file members have ownership of their union.
I want to give ownership back to the members.
Use your right to vote to for the most experienced person in the race. Let's keep the IBU moving ahead.
I am running for re-election as President of the IBU. 25 year member of the IBU. AB deckhand at Washington State ferries, negotiating team member, years on PSR Executive Committee, 8 years as IBU PSR patrolman, 3 years as your President. I would be proud to have your vote and continue the IBU on a path to financial stability and growth. We have had success in organizing, taken steps to reduce costs and secure jurisdiction in new areas of work.

The other day I found 37 of my campaign mailers in my mailbox. Yesterday I got 15 more. All of them had labels from the post office stating they were undeliverable because there was no such address or the forward time expired.
What this means is that at least those 52 full-book members never received my literature, or their ballots. They were some in every Region of the union.
If you have not received a ballot it may be because the union has the wrong address. To fix that you need to contact your Regional Director, in writing, and give them your current address and request a replacement ballot. Email is probably easiest.
Union democracy works best when members participate. If you haven’t gotten a ballot find out why and if needed request a new one. Your vote is your voice.
I got my IBU ballot today. On the return envelope there's a place for your IBU Book #. Lots of folks forget where to find it but it's on your address label. Please vote.
Ballots go out to members tomorrow October 16th and will be counted December 15th. Look for yours next week and please send it in.

Happy Labor Day all workers who are today enjoying a day off, or engaged in essential work that requires them to be on the job. The first Labor Day parade was held in New York City in 1882. Thousands of workers marched calling for “Eight Hours for a Legal Day’s Work” and other reforms. President Grover Cleveland signed a bill into law declaring Labor Day a federal holiday in 1894. (NYT)
Those calls for reform by the early labor movement in the US have led, in fits and starts, to the benefits we have today in the form of union contracts, negotiated benefits, and a say in our working conditions. The early unionists who saw the federal holiday pass through Congress and become law couldn’t imagine the advances organized labor has given to working people. But there is more to do. Enjoy our holiday today and let’s continue the fight.
