I LOVE THIS ANALOGY:

You are holding a cup of coffee when someone comes along and bumps into you or shakes your arm, making you spill your coffee everywhere.

Why did you spill the coffee?

"Because someone bumped into me!!!"
Wrong answer.

You spilled the coffee because there was coffee in your cup.
Had there been tea in the cup, you would have spilled tea.
Whatever is inside the cup is what will spill out.

Therefore, when life comes along and shakes you (which WILL happen), whatever is inside you will come out. It's easy to fake it, until you get rattled.

So we have to ask ourselves... “what's in my cup?"

When life gets tough, what spills over?
Joy, gratitude, peace and humility?
Anger, bitterness, victim mentality and quitting tendencies?

Life provides the cup, YOU choose how to fill it.

Today let's work towards filling our cups with gratitude, forgiveness, joy, words of affirmation, resilience, positivity; and kindness, gentleness and love for others.

On this day last year, Koko Beans Coffee had it’s first sale. How fitting that we call it the Freedom Blend. ☺️ No one could have told me before then that I would be in the “coffee business”. Many people don’t know this, but I was never a big coffee drinker. If it wasn’t sweet with all the razzle-dazzle, I didn’t care for it. Yet here we are, with a simple blend, no razzle-dazzle; just 4 healthy ingredients. God gave vision and we walked into it!

On this day, I am reminded that with freedom comes faith and action. It doesn’t have to be perfect before you walk into it. This year wasn’t easy and there have been SEVERAL No’s, but we’re still here. I said in the beginning that I wanted KBC to be a household name. We aren’t in everyone’s home yet but we sure have made a difference within the walls of some special customers. 🤎

I can’t promise that this next year will be perfect but I can say that I won’t stop showing up. I hope to bring you more coffee and more conversation within your homes, families, and communities. And maybe even a physical Koko Beans Coffee spot! I can see it now!!!🙏🏾🤯 Anything can happen!

Today marks the day that enslaved Africans in Galveston, Texas, were made aware of their freedom, which had been granted TWO YEARS prior in 1863, after the Emancipation Proclamation.

Freedom finally came on June 19, 1865, when some 2,000 Union troops arrived in Galveston Bay, Texas. The army announced that the more than 250,000 enslaved black people in the state, were free by executive decree. This day came to be known as “Juneteenth,” by the newly freed people in Texas.
