The Azusa City Council voted to acquire and move the Old School House, preserving its historical significance.

Although official records only go back to 1903, the building is likely older.

With the assistance of a $3 million grant from our state representatives, Senator Susan Rubio and Assemblywoman Blanca Rubio, the building is moving! It is currently “jacked up” at it’s current location at Slauson Middle School. It is expected to be moved on the evening of Thursday, October 13th. A press conference will take place at 5 pm, ahead of the move. Street closures will be in effect during the process.

The new location for the Old School House will be at Veterans Freedom Park, between the Durrell House and the Barnes House. The School House will undergo a BIG rehabilitation.

A hat tip to our counterparts at the Azusa Unified School Board for their collaboration.

A formal press release will be issued by the City on Thursday, with additional information.
