Fearless Fred's Fantasy Football
My fantasy picks and updates
This is from a nice feature by ESPN's Dan Graziano. From the article:
"I think the biggest challenge is to reset every year, stay hungry and never take anything for granted," (head coach Sean) McDermott said. "This league is year-to-year. You always see teams that are up one year and down the next. We have to make sure that's not us."
"An example of how the coaches are delivering that message: Offensive coordinator Brian Daboll, in a meeting early in camp, asked every offensive player and coach to stand up.
"If you're a coach and you've ever been fired, sit down," Daboll said, and every coach in the room sat down.
"OK," Daboll continued. "If you're a player and you've ever been cut or traded, sit down." A large group of players sat down.
"If you weren't picked in the first round, sit down," Daboll said, and suddenly the only person in the room still standing was Allen. (The only other first-rounder on Buffalo's offense is backup quarterback Mitchell Trubisky, who sat down with the cut-or-traded group, even though he technically wasn't cut nor traded by the Bears, just not re-signed.)
"Josh," Daboll said. "How many scholarship offers did you get out of high school?"
"None," Allen replied.
"All right," Daboll said. "Let's all remember where we came from."
That's gold.
Round 1 tight ends break out for the first time more often in Year 4 and beyond than the first three seasons. This differs for Round 2, where they break out in Years 1-3 more often than Year 4 and later. The same applies for Round 3-4 pedigree, where they hit earlier despite a lower overall success rate.
Denver Broncos QBs Drew Lock and Teddy Bridgewater are expected to get an equal number of reps during training camp until a decision is made on which one will be named the starter, according to comments made by head coach Vic Fangio on Tuesday, July 27.
Chicago Bears QB Justin Fields 'clearly did his homework' and has 'really impressed' with the progress he has made since the end of offseason workouts, according to comments made by head coach Matt Nagy on Tuesday, July 27.
Houston Texans WR Randall Cobb is being sought after by Green Bay Packers QB Aaron Rodgers, and a trade is likely to happen.
San Francisco 49ers QB Jimmy Garoppolo will take the starter's reps in practice and won't face an 'open competition' for the job from Trey Lance, according to comments made by head coach Kyle Shanahan on Tuesday, July 27.
Is Emmanuel Sanders too old to deliver starter production?
Can a quarterback learn accuracy in the NFL?
Who would you draft:
Devante Adams or Michael Thomas ?
Who would you Draft:
A J Brown or Justin Jefferson?
Who would you draft: Brandon Cooks or Courtland Sutton?
David Johnson
The memories of Johnson dominating in Arizona are still following him into this offseason. There is no other way to explain a mid-range RB3 price when he is in one of the worst possible situations in Houston. The only reason Johnson had fantasy value last year was a superhuman effort from Deshaun Watson to move the offense and produce points. Heading into this season, their offensive line is mediocre, their quarterback situation is a mess, they have a new coach, and the rest of the skill position players are uninspiring. On top of these issues, the Texans added Rex Burkhead, Mark Ingram II II, and Philip Lindsay to compete for touches. Drafting running backs on the downside of their career, on bad offenses, in a platoon situation, is fraught with peril. Avoid.
Tyler Boyd:
Andy Hicks: Drafting Ja'Marr Chase with pick five in the 2021 draft, the Cincinnati wide receiver room changed dramatically. Tyler Boyd and Tee Higgins looked like excellent fantasy prospects before that. Something has to give in 2021. Chase has an established rapport with Joe Burrow. He will get a significant share. Tee Higgins had a great rookie season in 2020, leaving Tyler Boyd as most likely to suffer. Over the last six games, his form indicates how bad things could get—10 receptions for 131 yards from 175 snaps. There isn’t much upside here.
Carson Wentz- There are strong signs that Wentz will rehab his career in Indianapolis, and all you currently have to risk is a pick outside the top-150 to find out if he can
Seahawks coach Pete Carroll stated that he believes tight end Gerald Everett could be a breakout player for them this season.
Another day, another positive story about Everett (listen to the drumbeat here). Everett has always had the potential to do more but never quite lived up to expectations with the Rams. He gets a fresh start with the Seahawks and has a chance to be a favorite target of QB Russell Wilson. We like Everett as a streaming option if you wait at tight end, and he's got a current ADP of TE22 (14.04) in 12-team PPR leagues.
Adam Theilen: Pat Fitzmaurice: He's not Minnesota's No. 1 receiver anymore -- that's Justin Jefferson's gig now -- and we know the Vikings prefer to be run-heavy on offense. Thielen has averaged just 53.7 receiving yards per game over the last two seasons. He's simply not a big catch and yardage collector anymore, and Thielen probably won't come close to equaling the 14 touchdowns he scored last season.
Sigmund Bloom: Jason Garrett and Daniel Jones teamed up for one of the most inefficient quarterback seasons of 2020, with only seven touchdowns on 54 red zone attempts. The team went out and signed Golladay to a big deal to boost the pass offense, but they didn't make any big changes to the offensive line to help Jones have more time to throw, and Garrett isn't exactly known for bold downfield passing game plans. The Giants cup runneth over with viable passing game targets, and Jones has no track record throwing to a contested-catch target who doesn't separate consistently like Golladay. After some receivers on new teams flourished in 2020, this is a situation to analyze through the conventional lens of avoiding receivers who have to adjust to new quarterbacks and systems, especially when Golladay's previous quarterback, Matthew Stafford, was perfect for his strengths.
