For persons living near the Santa Maria Airport who are concerned about noise, pollution and land use
Here's how Edhat reported the SMX settlement for destroying California Tiger Salamander Habitat. Bears little semblance to the actual settlement.

Here is a NoozHawk article on the SMX California Tiger Salamander settlement.
Santa Maria Airport, Agencies Reach Settlement Over Tiger Salamander Claims | Local News | Noozhawk The Santa Maria Public Airport will set aside 365 acres for California tiger salamanders, invest $1 million toward creating an on-site living laboratory
Looks like SMX is in trouble with the US Fish and Wildlife and California Fish and Game. Apparently they destroyed some California Tiger Salamander Habitat without permission or mitigation. $5,000,000 mistake. The settlement is detailed in August 22 Board Minutes.
Delta Passenger Jet making several landings and take-offs. There is a helicopter moving in whenever the jet is touching down. Maybe taking pictures? It would be great if Delta decided to serve our area. BTW, this jet is so quiet as it lands and takes off. Definitely would be a plus for us.
From the Orcutt Pioneer. I guess we're in for a few noisy days.
The Air Force for the next ten days is conducting Military excercizes in the Western United States which involve "the south side of the Santa Maria Airport," according to Richard Tokoph operations manager. "You may see military personel, smoke and hear loud bangs. Please do not be alarmed. Law enforcement has been notified." For further, call the Airport 805 922 1726.
Military flights in and out of the airport have ramped up significantly this last week. If any of the airport board members or employees who monitor this site can share what's been going on, it would be greatly appreciated.
All: I haven't checked in for a while. Mainly because, suddenly, military use of our airport seemed to be waning. However, the last few days it has stepped up. This weekend I visited my aunt in Hawthorne Ca, pretty much directly below, or close to, the approach route for LAX. Jet noise was almost unnoticeable. I think this is because those jets are subject to strict noise limitations as opposed to the military jets using our airport. I'd be curious to hear your thoughts on this issue.
