I made this poster to incorporate the holidays, but still be easily recognizable as .soda.

The trick is to use your brand colors and typography consistently, but through in some season specific elements.

I can totally geek out over Design. And Harry Potter. And Marvel - but just the movies. I’m too much of a nerd to read comic books when I could read an actual book.

Because sometimes you have a lot to say!!

Although most designers prefer minimalism and lots of white space, sometimes our clients have a lot to say.

So instead of overwhelming them with a lot of information, designers use tricks so you only notice one thing at a time. They make sure you see the most important points first so they catch your interest and draw you in.

With this poster I made for Brainiax- what do you see first?? And does it make any sense?!

Whatever you prefer, did you notice how the inside is white and yellow like the inside of a regular chicken egg??

My kids didn’t know this!! Crazy how a little meaning from a design doesn’t always get through to your audience.

I would have thought the yellow/white egg thing was obvious to everyone.

I have also heard that sometimes it is best to know when to quit. How sometimes real success comes only after you change directions and start something new.

Maybe not giving up means you keep trying even after you quit. It means you quit, but then start something new. Maybe never giving up and quitting are things we should be doing simultaneously?

Working hard or hardly working?

It has been a busy March! My business has been growing this spring and it’s so exciting!

There was a time lat fall when things were slow and I was doubting my every decision. I’m really glad I stuck with it.

So if business feels slow for you- keep working hard! Market yourself on social media and network with similar businesses. Strengthen your brand and your product offerings. And don’t be afraid to fail and try something new.

You’ve got this! It will work out!

Daylight savings Monday got me feeling like⬆️.

Why is the Monday so much worse than the Sunday? And why does it get worse every year?!

Anyone else feeling the time change this year??

The suffering of others IS our problem! I love this quote.

And a quote this serious deserves a serious, trustworthy typeface.

The classic lines and serifs give this font, Cochin, some weighty gravitas.

But it has some beautiful unique details you don’t want to miss! Notice the shape at the top of the lowercase “t”? And don’t you think the descender on the “y” is so beautiful?!

Come on! When you look closely don’t you get almost as excited about these letters as I do?! I can’t be the only one!!

This girl is kind. And strong. And fun. And smart. And brave. And talented. She’s only 10, but already she’s one of the most amazing women I know!

She’s my daughter but I can’t take credit for how awesome she is. It’s just who she is.

Happy International Women’s Day! There’s awesome in all of us!

Who’s ready for summer??

I’m working on getting this soda truck decked out and ready to hit the streets this year.

I don’t know about you, but I’m ready for all the warm, summer vibes!

These are different than my usual style, but it was fun to stretch and get creative with these logos for .hippie. And I love their chill, easy flowing look!!!

I really think doing new things often is what keeps you going!

What have you done that’s new to you lately?

Ever notice how pictures have a mood?? (My photographer friends are rolling their eyes and saying “duh” right now!)

But seriously! They do! They make us think of things and feel things that aren’t necessarily in the the frame.

Does anyone else have their kids home from school this week?

My kids have been home for their scheduled winter break. But they’ve actually been pretty good... so far!!

And I have to say- I know I’m lucky because they get to go back to school on Monday!

My heart goes out to all of you parents trying to work and parent and school from home.

So who watched Netflix today???

I did! I procrastinated my work. Just a little bit.

But I did get to it eventually. And I’m thrilled with what I got done.

Maybe procrastination is secretly beneficial... 🤔

Just kidding. I know hard work is the best way to go. But every once in awhile a little play can be good for you. ☺️.

I’m starting the week with a clean desk. I’m ashamed to admit how rare that is... 😳. But today it’s clean and I’m happy to be back at work.

Sometimes it’s the little things that keep us going when it’s way too cold and way to COVID outside.

I have to admit, 2 isn’t mine. It has a nice peaceful vibe, but I feel like there is something missing.

Summer vibes were definitely an inspiration for this chill logo.

It’s for a new soda truck in Sierra Vista, AZ. I’m bummed it’s so far away!

Want a quick and easy go to font for everyday use?! Today’s font is great for beginners!

As the world’s most popular font, Helvetica will give almost any brand a clean modern look.

The design world has a love hate relationship with this font. But even the haters can’t deny it’s versatility.

When in doubt- use Helvetica Bold, put it in all caps, and align it to the left. It’s a guaranteed professional look.

Leave a 👍 in the comments if you have Helvetica on your computer. And check out my stories for more examples of this font.

I love how it’s a modern take on a elegant and traditional font. The line breaks make it just different enough to be memorable.

Use this font for headlines or grabbing attention. I wouldn’t recommend it for paragraph copy.
