Interesting article for nattokinase for lipid management and improvement of carotid artery plaque.
While not a perfect study, certain sheds light on a potentially useful tool for people looking for an alternative or are intolerant of conventional pharmaceutical management.
Interesting note, dose matters! Which is not a surprise, many natural medicine are like this, they must be dosed appropriately to get the effect you are looking for. No surprise, that might be different than what the bottle says to take.

Best sleep efficiency I’ve ever seen on my Oura ring after an ass kicking workout at with Dave and Lindsey. Round 2 tonight! Locking in those Zzzzs
Nothing like a BBQ to kick of a fast. Bubbly water for me!
🌲🌲 If you are one of my patients, you know that I’ve been out of the office for a week...
I have been up in Washington state leading a private, individualized health intensive.
As I have expressed before, I love the Pacific Northwest, from my days of medical school in Portland to visiting family in British Columbia, I feel like this area of the country immerses me in a stronger connection to nature and its rhythms.
On top of the unreal beauty of our Puget Sound-based rental we are staying in, we also get to walk amongst deer, stretch on the deck overlooking sea lions in the bay, meditate in front of a crackling fire to stay warm and eat some fresh oysters from right outside our door ( ).
What does one do on a two-week retreat with me?
This one is based around learning a low carbohydrate diet, what that means, and how to cook it (yes, we cook together and I like my steak medium please) and is rolling into 3-day water fast in the second week.
Throughout the weeks we are following comprehensive lab work, gut health through a GI MAP stool test, blood sugar data through ‘s G6 continuous glucose monitor and blood Ketone levels through ’s blood ketone testing, sleep and activity via our s and even evaluating a sleep study with the WatchPat One (see their FB facebook.com/ItamarMedical).
We are emphasizing pain management and recovery with daily bodywork including shockwave therapy, low-level laser therapy, cupping, massage, and other physiotherapy techniques.
We exercise, we stretch, we meditate, we have discussions, we learn...I’ve never shucked an oyster before this week. We play, we eat, and we sleep--we sleep really well, in fact. Basically we live but are taking the time to examine HOW we are living, examining our lives from a physiological and psychosocial and emotional standpoint to see where we can improve our resilience to pain, stress, degeneration, inflammation, and suffering.
It has been simple but not easy, yet profound and subtle.
If this sounds like something you need, let's talk. Until then, I will try to take more pictures of animals that I see. 👀 @ Washington
Awesome graphic!
ARE YOU SLEEPING ENOUGH?
This simple chart by Heather Zwickey shows why sleep is so important (always), especially right now, during this pandemic. Too little or interrupted sleep leads to more inflammation, pain and anxiety. Check out the bi-direction arrows too. This means that this chart can flow in either direction. If your anxiety is high, it will impact sleep, pain and inflammation as well. IL-6 is an inflammatory marker that elevates and contributes to severe symptoms of COVID-19 and other infections.
For your immune system and your sanity, make sure to give yourself the time and recourses to get a full night of sleep every night.
This (and many other reasons) is why my husband and I are now 5 nights into sleep training our 11-month old son, Río. It had been a while since we slept through a whole night and wow does it feel gooooooood!

While not a fan of my patients having to go to the ER (accidents happen), these emails are rewarding.
Shelter in place home cooking could be making us happier?
I know my eating out has dropped significantly over the last 2 weeks. And while I don’t generally make terrible decisions, it’s not the same as home cooked and partially home grown food.
Gut health matters!
Fixing Your Mind Might Start With Your Stomach Mainstream medicine is coming around on the notion of treating anxiety with food.

4) Sleep
Those seem doable.

Social distancing on a Sunday morning!
All jokes aside, it’s important right now.
All patients of you prefer an online visit we can easily facilitate that, and at this point would prefer it.
I know many people are working from home, reduced hours, or are now dealing with work AND kids at home.
With an increase of home time we can start a new project (or complete the many we have going), spend more time outside, start a home exercise routine (check out ), dive in to meditation (check out ), and even get healthcare
I will be sending out an update to my newsletter containing some COVID-19/Coronavirus information. Sign up for the newsletter on my website by tonight if you’d like to receive the email update.

What do you think happened last weekend to cause my HRV to drop so drastically?!? See how it took the rest of the week to really catch up. One night of junk sleep doesn’t end there, it carries over into the subsequent days.
Love my but ignorance is bliss sometimes 😂
I don’t just do these activities because I am strange. Don’t get me wrong, I AM strange, but these activities are free things that I can do on a regular basis in an attempt to increase how long I stay on this planet and keep optimal health while I am here. Up-regulating mitochondrial function appears to be an important factor. @ Revive Naturopathic Medicine, Inc.

Stress Management
Last night, after a work day in Bakersfield, a long drive home in traffic and sort of a stressful week.
The universe has been throwing a lot of stuff my way recently, which I am attempting to take in stride, but I will admit it is getting hard and overwhelming.
Got in the door, got at hug from my girl, a kiss from the dog and directly in to my cold plunge. (some of you know I MacGyver'd my own cold plunge out of a chest freezer)
My cold plunge is set to 15 degrees Celcius (about 59-60 Fahrenheit). Hopped in and just sat for about 6 minutes. Practiced my deep breathing and worked on calming my system down.
6 minutes later, I was cold. But, my mood was great, my tension eased and I was able to relax and have a wonderful rest of my evening, when before I couldn't get out of my head.
I love the cold for this, it helps reset my brain, my body, my emotions. It brings up an innate survival instinct, that makes some of the noise just shut up and go away.
Hydrotherapy, is one of the oldest modalities of medicine and still carries incredible power.

Only 5 more days until group fasting week. I know, that "F word" may scare some of you, but fasting isn't the same as starving. Dr. Jason Fung helps defines fasting as "controlled voluntary abstinence of food." Why in the world would you want to voluntarily do this to yourself, right?
Rest and fasting can be used as an effective, natural approach to cleansing our systems and hitting that reset button. I talk about the benefits all the time. It benefits things like: weight loss, insulin sensitivity, heart disease, cancer, other diseases, and overall feeling better...and the best part is that it's all free.
Learn more by signing up for a free consultation with me at revivenatmed.com ( ) and join us in our group fast next week starting December 9th. We would love to help you find the information and support you're looking for to try something new in your wellness journey. Even if you're not ready for this round, but still want get inspiration or information from those who have experience with fasting, consider joining our Facebook group: facebook.com/groups/docderek (or just click the link in my bio).
