1988, two Stanford students Larry Page and Sergey Brin envisioned to organize the vast amount of data available on the internet. They embarked on a journey to revolutionize the way we search for information.

In its early days, Google faced challenges in the crowded market, which was dominated by giants like AltaVista and Yahoo.

In the pool of these challenges, Larry Page and Sergey Brin had a master plan; they believed that the relevance of a webpage should be determined by analyzing links from reputable resources ; this belief fueled their page rank algorithm, which set them apart.

Securing its significant investment in the year 1999, they established their headquarters in Menlo Park, California. This humble beginning was the start of a remarkable ascension.

Google’s breakout moment came in 2004 when they conducted their Initial Public Offering (IPO). This was the beginning of a significant milestone, enabling them to raise a capital and attract more investors.

With IPO funds, Google continued to expand its services. They introduced products like Google Maps, Gmail, and Google News and these products became crucial parts that determine people’s lives.

There were privacy concerns in Google, legal battles, copyright issues, however the company persevered and lined out strategies to combat these challenges.

Today this same Google has become the world’s technology powerhouse offering products like Google Cloud, YouTube, Google Home and many more.

What do we learn from the very last story in our success story compilation? Perseverance, innovation, and customer-centric approach can propel a business from point-A to point-Success.

At every point in your business journey, stay focused on providing value, embrace new technologies, adapt to change, then you can carve your business path to success.

Red Hat® Inc. began when a small businessman met a geek at a tech conference. Marc Ewing was the geek—hacking, debugging, and spinning his own distribution of Linux® on CDs from his home in Raleigh, North Carolina.

Bob Young was the businessman—running a computer supply catalog business out of his home in Connecticut. He noticed a growing interest in Linux, so he began to buy Ewing’s CDs. Young sold out of them so many times that he and Ewing joined forces, and Red Hat Software was born in 1995, with Young as CEO.Instead of protecting trade secrets and filing patents for expensive proprietary products, Red Hat took a radically different approach to software: a stable, accessible distribution of a constantly evolving, community-developed operating system called Linux.

Red Hat believed that open collaboration was the best way to create software. It saw itself as an upstart charging the gates of a closed, monopolistic technology industry, and this view was represented in the creation of the Shadowman logo.

Part superhero, part rebel, and part private detective, Shadowman captured much of Red Hat’s early market strategy—sneaking past the barriers built by proprietary technology companies and bringing open source into datacenters. For many years, Red Hat Linux was a boxed product sold alongside Microsoft Windows and Lotus Notes in retail stores. Like other software companies, Red Hat released a new version every six months or so—hoping customers would buy it for the new features. While the development model was innovative, the business model wasn’t.

In 2001, Red Hat stopped the distribution of boxed Red Hat Linux, its primary source of revenue. Instead, affirming its trust in open source once again, Red Hat introduced an enterprise edition that would be sold on a subscription basis.

Red Hat Enterprise Linux became the company’s flagship product, an offering to the world’s most demanding datacenters. A freely available, community version of its Linux operating system would continue to be developed and supported under a new name: Fedora.

Matthew Szulik, then CEO and a tireless open source evangelist, believed in Red Hat’s role as a catalyst for change in the technology industry. In 2006, he charted what would become Red Hat’s vision

This trend is the one that actually connects all of the others. The data required to build the metaverse, create digital twins, train intelligent machines, and develop new strategies for enabling digital trust is gathered by the interconnected sensors, devices, and infrastructure network. This is referred to as the Internet of Things (IoT), and in 2023, its influence on our lives will remain significant.

More focus will be paid to enabling advanced and more advantageous machine-to-machine interactions. These days, we are used to furnishing both our homes and offices with smart technology. But we commonly encounter problems when gadgets can't interact because of diverse platforms and operating systems. In 2023, research on developing global standards and communication protocols that gadgets can use to connect with one another will continue. As a result, they will operate more effectively and be able to assist us with a larger range of duties.

Another focus will be on IoT security, which will incorporate tools with AI-assisted prediction skills, and companies investing in IoT will prioritize improvements.

Next-generation wireless will improve connectivity while also assisting in process optimization for increased reliability, cheaper costs, lower risks, and more productivity. The shift to digital transformation will be more seamless if several wireless technologies are combined onto a single infrastructure and utilized.

If the technical foundation for future wireless is more accessible, unified, secure, dependable, and scalable, it will require less funding. The new wireless technology will make it easier for the Internet of Things (IoT) trend to collect environmental data. Applications in satellite technology, radar sensing, energy harvesting, location tracking, and other areas are likel

The market for wearables continues to trend upward.

In 2022, it was valued at more than $116 billion and rising demand is expected to drive the market value even higher through 2026, hitting $265 billion that year.

Like we discussed with FemTech, wearables are becoming more sophisticated in the data they collect and in the algorithms that data feeds.

Up until recently, many wearables were focused on sleep tracking and step counting.

In recent years, however, we’ve seen a variety of devices launched with features that go far beyond these basic functions.

A few tech companies offer smart rings with built-in near-field communication technology.

These rings enable wearers to make payments, unlock smart-key doors, and share data with the swipe of their finger.

For instance, McLear’s RingPay acts as a contactless payment device, allowing users to swipe their ring in the same way they swipe a contactless card. There’s no need for any kind of interface or app.

Another example comes from the smart ring brand Cnick. They’ve created the Tesla key ring.

Owners can lock, unlock, and start their vehicle by simply taping their knuckle.

The ring can also be used for contactless payments

While it’s exciting to talk about tech developments like quantum computing and AI, one technology that’s likely to benefit humanity the most is early disease detection.

That’s because the earlier a disease is detected, the more likely the patient is to survive.

For example, if ovarian cancer is caught while it’s still localized, the five-year survival rate is 93%.

A similar increase in life expectancy is seen for patients with melanoma. There’s a 99% five-year survival rate for localized cancer, but only a 32% survival rate after the cancer has spread.Unfortunately, certain types of cancer, like those that affect the pancreas, lungs, and ovaries, are notoriously difficult to catch early.

In an effort to increase survival rates, researchers and tech industry startups are dedicating an increasing amount of resources to cutting-edge technologies designed to detect cancer cells earlier in development.

Take pancreatic cancer, for example.

A company called Biological Dynamics has developed a lab-on-a-chip test that looks for bio-markers specific to pancreatic cancer. The test is entering human trials now.

So far, the company has raised $125 million in funding and hopes to build on the success of the pancreatic cancer test in order to launch tests for lung cancer and ovarian cancer.

Using AI for early diagnosis is another trend in the health tech space.

Researchers at MIT are using AI models to assess lung cancer risk in patients. The tool was trained on six years worth of lung scans from patients in the United States and Taiwan. From these scans, the tool learned to identify and categorize patterns.

It’s best at predicting lung cancer that will occur within one year, but is also capable of predicting the disease up to six years in advance.

And it’s not just cancer that tech tools can detect early.

Scientists are leveraging nanotechnology that fits inside a smartphone camera in order to diagnose a wide variety of diseases.

The idea is that this nanotechnology makes phase imaging, an advanced way of viewing cells, available to patients at home.

If this technology makes it through trials, patients will be able to take an image of their saliva or a pinprick of blood at home using phase imaging on their camera and send it directly to their medical provider for analysis.

One at-home medical test that uses smartphone technology that’s already cleared for use is the Minuteful Kidney test from Healthy.io.

It was in 1994 when Jeff Bezos started a very small bookstore in his garage, which he named Amazon. Hardly did he know that this tiny venture was on a course to becoming an e-commerce store that will redefine shopping in this century.

In the early years of Amazon, the company faced a number of challenges. Initially, Amazon operated at a loss because its focus was on expansion and building a solid customer base. That notwithstanding, Bezos was focused on creating an online market where customers could find whatsoever be their need from the comfort of their 84 by 40 inches couch.

In 1977, Amazon made a strategic decision which was a game changer to the company’s trajectory. They decided to go public, raising a capital to fuel its growth. Despite the innumerable skepticism from investors and competitors alike, Bezos remained steadfast in his belief that Amazon would one day become an online retail powerhouse.

Jeff Bozos breakthrough moment was in the year 1990 when he launched Amazon Prime. Amazon Prime is a subscription service that offered free two-day shipping on eligible items.

This altruistic service did not only exponentially increase customer’s loyalty, but also set the stage for Amazon’s expansion into other product categories and services.

As years turned into many years, Amazon introduced Kindle e-reader in 2007 which revolutionized digital reading.

However, as usual it wasn’t a smooth ride along for Amazon, in the year 2000, the dot-com bubble burst that affected many internet based companies also delved a blow on Amazon. The company experienced its lowest stock price during this period, and this situation raised concerns about their long-term viability.

Jeff Bezos was never backing down, instead of throwing in the towel he expanded his catalog, improved customer experiences and integrated technological advancements. They made acquisitions like Zappos and Whole Foods Market, hence diversifying their offerings and market reach.

Today Amazon has become the go-to place when you think of online shopping, not only that, the company’s influence extends beyond retail with ventures such as Amazon Prime Video, Amazon Echo and Alexia.

One out of the many moral lessons to draw from Bezos’ story is that customer focus, adaptability and willingness to take risks can propel a business from zero to hero. Oh! Less I forget, embracing technological innovation can tip the market dynamics n your favor.

GAFAM was the first acronym used to designate digital companies.

This group includes a search engine, a social network, a digital marketplace, and two operating systems and electronic device manufacturers.

The acronym GAFAM is used because it is easy to pronounce, but mostly to highlight that it is the products that have an impact on society and not the parent companies. Otherwise, Google would be Alphabet and Facebook would be Meta, so AAMAM would be the updated acronym.Google
Google revolutionized web browsing and made it popular with the general public. Even if Chrome has also become an important part of Internet users’ lives, it is the search engine that has impacted access to knowledge.
Apple
Apple is a historical manufacturer that offers an ecosystem of interconnected products. Although Apple has been around for a long time, it was the introduction of the iPhone that established its position as a digital giant.
The iPhone revolutionized mobile telephony, phone design, but also unlimited access to the Internet and the creation of applications.
Facebook
Facebook was the first large-scale social network.
If today Facebook is criticized for various reasons, it has allowed connecting people on a central place on the Internet.
The creation of social networks has revolutionized the use of the internet which was then only utilitarian. Now we had a permanent reason to connect to the internet.
Amazon
Amazon popularized online sales and above all revolutionized the delivery logistics chain. Even if the working conditions at Amazon are still criticized, the online sales platform has changed forever the way we used to consume on the Internet.
Microsoft
Microsoft dates back to the same time as Apple but popularized the purchase of personal computers, which allowed computers to enter the home, whereas they were perceived as professional tools until then.
The Windows operating system was also the first step towards the popularization of computing by offering a system that was less reliable than Apple, but more flexible.
When we look at the list, we can realize one thing: these companies are old. The youngest is Facebook which was born in 2007, but all the others were already active in the 90s, it took them at least 20 years to reach their current status.

Their funds allow these companies to invest in research. All of them are afraid of being forgotten at the dawn of a new era and new emerging technologies.

That’s why we have so much excitement today about new realities, VR headsets developed by Microsoft and Facebook, AR glasses developed by Google and Apple. The technologies are presented early even if they fail because the GAFAMs want to keep their dominant position on grounds that are still to be conquered.

Sometimes new future technologies can offer amazing development, with the possibility of changing the future... while also being incredibly creepy.

This is one way to describe the idea of necrobotics which, as the name suggests, involves turning dead things into robots. While this sounds like a plot to a creepy horror film, this is a technology being explored at Rice University.

A team of researchers turned a dead spider into a robot-like gripper, given the ability to pick up other objects. To achieve this, they take a spider and inject it with air. This works because spiders use hydraulics to force their version of blood (haemolymph) into their limbs, making them extend.

Right now this concept is in its infant stages, but it could mean a future where dead animals are used to further science... it all feels very Frankeinstein-like!

The video-on-demand platform has been around for a long time, but it’s its transition to a digital offering that has changed the world.
Netflix has enabled several revolutions. The piracy of movies and series has dropped as a result of the popularization of Netflix. Offering a quality service was enough to put an end to a practice that governments had been trying to curb for years in vain.
The way of consuming series has been changed. Before, it was rare to watch a series in one go. Episodes were broadcast punctually and over several years. Watching six seasons of a series you just discovered is no longer a problem today. This way of consuming has even impacted the world of cinema which had to rethink its way of conceiving series taking into account that they would probably be watched in a reduced time. We even come to make remote controls with an integrated Netflix button.
The company has been imitated by other entertainment giants but seems to keep its lead

With the explosion of smart speakers and voice search in recent years, you’d be forgiven for thinking that “readable” content is more important than visuals and design these days.

In fact, this couldn’t be further from the truth. While advancements in voice search are certainly influencing the way that we’ll create content now and in the future, you shouldn’t neglect visual content and the basic elements of brand storytelling.

Research has shown that people prefer visual content to plain text. You just have to look at the growth of image-focused platforms Pinterest and Instagram to see the proof of this.Google, Pinterest, and several other companies are also investing in visual search technology. Images are already returned for 19% of searches on Google, and 62% of millennials say they are more interest in visual search than any other new technology.

Visuals are also easier to remember than written content. Adding data visualizations, infographics, images, and videos to your text not only makes it more interesting and attractive, but it can help your message to be absorbed better too.

Social media and mobile marketing have certainly changed the game as far as how modern-day marketing works.

But while many small businesses focus their efforts on the free and low-cost marketing opportunities that social media platforms offer, ads have also proven effective in driving ROI.

Unsurprisingly, Facebook dominates the world of social media advertising, as over 93% of marketers use some form of Facebook ads in their social media marketing strategy. To get the most out of your Facebook ad campaign, there are a few things you’ll want to focus on:

Ensure that you’re creating an attractive offer
Track the right KPIs
Utilize attractive images and/or videos
Set clear, measurable goals
