📣The Eureka Host Lions Club announces the 2023 Student Speaker Contest, open to high school students who attend school in Eureka. Students who live in Eureka, but who attend high school outside the city limits are also eligible to participate in the Eureka contest.
The topic is: "Social Media: Connects Us or Divides Us?" The contest will be held on Saturday, February 18th from 9-12 at the United Congregational Christian Church, 900 Hodgson at J Street in Eureka. Jude Ortega, pictured with District Student Speaker chair DeeDee Byrne, won the Area 2 Student Speaker contest in Burlingame. Jude is a Senior at Arcata High School and has now won five levels of the 2021-2022 contest beginning in February at the McKinleyville club level contest. He will now prepare to participate in the MD4 Final contest in San Jose on June 11. We wish him the best of luck.

RIP Lion Winfred
Winfred Grissom, a town ‘legend’, always greeted Eureka residents with a smile Winfred Loyd Grissom died Monday from COVID-19 at Alder Bay Assisted Living, leaving behind a legacy of humor and hard work among a generation of Eureka residents who remember him.
Our hearts are heavy as we learn about the passing of Lion Winfred Grissom of the Eureka Host Club.
Rest in Peace, Lion. Thank you for your service to our community.
