A Facebook post says that Robert Walker, former C-ARS and Madison Co. medic, has died. Shown in white shirt in a 2007'ish picture. Sad to hear.

Dr. Ken Wallenborn (Squad Surgeon for 10 years) and Jim Carpenter (Board of Directors for 20 years) listen as Pete Davidson tells a tall tale in the C-ARS kitchen this morning. I was assured that this was the first time in history that a tall tale has been told in that room.
Susan McHenry, Director of the Virginia Office of EMS, Darlene Rea, Captain of C-ARS, and Brenda Barbour, Executive Director of the TJ EMS Council, at the Virginia EMS Symposium 1989 (?). C-ARS was awarded the Governor's Award for Outstanding EMS Agency for that year. Bob Jaskiewicz was the former Captain during the award process that started at the Regional (TJ EMS Council) earlier in the year.

1974-75 Officers.
Amy Granger, left, at crash. Looks like Tammy Johnson in back. I'm not completely out of old pictures, but.... this is becoming the 'old days' rather quickly!
The FACTS about Juneteenth: C-ARS members Katy and Amy Granger are direct descendants of General Gordon Granger through their father, Gordon Granger, IV, who lives in Albemarle County. General Granger, described as '...never considered the most likeable of Union Officers' was sent to Texas to assume command of Union forces and 'restore law and order'. In Galveston, on June 19 Granger issued General Order No. 3: "THE PEOPLE OF TEXAS ARE INFORMED THAT, IN ACCORDANCE WITH A PROCLAMATION FROM THE EXECUTIVE OF THE UNITED STATES, ALL SLAVES ARE FREE. THIS INVOLVES AN ABSOLUTE EQUALITY OF PERSONAL RIGHTS AND RIGHTS TO PROPERTY BETWEEN FORMER MASTERS AND SLAVES, AND THE CONNECTION HERETOFORE EXISTING BETWEEN THEM BECOMES THAT BETWEEN EMPLOYER AND HIRED LABOR. THE FREEDMEN ARE ADVISED TO REMAIN QUIETLY AT THEIR PRESENT HOMES AND WORK FOR WAGES. THEY ARE INFORMED THAT THEY WILL NOT BE ALLOWED TO COLLECT AT MILITARY POSTS AND THAT THEY WILL NOT BE SUPPORTED IN IDLENESS EITHER THERE OR ELSEWHERE." From Conner, Robert C., General Gordon Granger (Casemate Publishers 2013). Image by Champe Granger. More people died in the civil war than any other U.S. war, the majority by diseases and wound infection.

On the night of January 9/10, 2005, C-ARS member and Assistant Chief Nikki Kielar and her pilot died in the crash of Life-Evac 2 outside Washington, D.C., having just dropped a patient at a D.C. hospital. The flight nurse fortunately survived. We want to remember her and her contributions. She had so many friends who all miss her.
Ahhhhh. Christmas party at the rescue squad. Wonder what these two are asking from Santa? Late70's? (Pretty sure I know what their wives were thinking - hope there are no cameras around).

The "Red Rooster". Designed by Dr. J. Frank Pantridge, Belfast. This was a game changer for those of us that had been using the Lifepack 33. Dr. Crampton and Dr. Pantridge were friends and colleagues and our local system grew from lessons learned in Northern Ireland. We joked the LP33 weighed 33 kilos. I've always been afraid to check.
1962 Fund Drive 'meter', located at the bottom of front page, Daily Progress. Graphic reminder of fund raising.
Typical country road crash. Lots of on-lookers as squadmembers load patient onto cot.
