My 4-H Rabbit, Cavy and Small Animal Project Record Book 15/08/2018

I hope your just as excited for the fair as we are. Jack and I have been getting everything ready for a successful rabbit show. If you are not showing this year, but can make the fair, we'd love to have your support on Saturday.

Things to remember:
Rabbit Play Pen (if you have one)
Your own grain (feeders and waterers supplied)
There is limited space under the cages so any carrier cages that can go back in your car would be appreciated.
Your name will be marked on your cage, if you don't like your spot, please see me. My cell phone is 603-558-4155 (Cell service is limited on the fairground, but sometimes does work!)

-Thursday night from 2pm to 8pm, set up at the fair. Drive your car right to the rabbit tent, the tent is in the ballpark field, unload your rabbit, grain, and tack box. There will be cages set up with your name on the cage. Its your responsibility to make sure your rabbit has food and water at all times (if you can‘t be their for a day, make sure someone knows and will feed your rabbit). There is a lot going on at this time, so be careful. Unload then move your car. This is also the time if you want to enter crafts, artwork, flowers, vegetables, etc. into the fair. Once your rabbit is all set, and you’ve checked in with Sandy (at this time you'll get your free breakfast tickets for Friday, Saturday and Sunday), then you can set up your tent/camper if you are staying overnight. If you are doing an Educational Poster, ($$), this needs to be down at the rabbit tent. Usually, around 7:00pm there is a 4-H member meeting under the dairy tent, where all the rules will be discussed. This is a meeting ALL 4-H members must attend.

Through the whole weekend, you will be judged for Herdsmanship. This is how well you take care of your pen area throughout the fair. Making sure your rabbit is kept out of the sun, has food/water and also kept clean. Points will be taken off if you leave your cloths, trash, equipment, like brushes or harness’s, laying around.

-Friday: Throughout the day, there will be a wire pen set up for your rabbits to play in. NO BREEDING will be done at this time. One rabbit at a time or same s*x rabbits that GET ALONG. This will be time for you to practice your rabbit jumping. Also volunteer your time at the dairy booth or watching the 4-H displays. Don’t forget we will be doing our fundraiser of the coin toss all weekend. (Would love to have someone in charge of this)

-Saturday: In the morning, you will preparing your rabbit for the show. Making sure nails are clipped, rabbits ears are clean, no hay/poop/pee in fur and groomed to perfection. 10:30 is the Rabbit Show. You need to be dressed in solid colored pants and a white shirt (long shirt preferred). Our first class is Fitting and Showmanship. This is where YOU get judged, not the animal. One at a time, you will bring your rabbit to the table where you will show your rabbit to the audience. The audience will ask you some questions and you will also need to hand in your Rabbit Project Record (https://njaes.rutgers.edu/pubs/publication.php?pid=4h241). After the showmanship class, the judge and I will go through all the rabbits/cavy’s and score them. In the end, there will be a Champion Rabbit and Reserve Champion Rabbit. Then at 6pm we will have the jumping and costume class. Ice Cream and Awards: 7:15ish

-Sunday: 3pm, start cleaning and packing up. Your rabbit must stay on display until 6pm.
