Bringing back the funk: The revival of Campbeltown 08/07/2024

Once the world's 'Victorian whisky capital' but now home to just three operational distilleries, Campbeltown may be easily overlooked by a whisky drinker less au fait with its history. However, as Alex Mennie reports, Campbeltown whiskies are on the up again thanks to a combination of factors — including a feverish interest in its most elusive whisky maker, Springbank, and a cluster of companies that will soon be opening new distilleries in Scotland's smallest whisky region.

Bringing back the funk: The revival of Campbeltown At the 2024 Campbeltown Malts Festival, Alex Mennie sees two sides of the Campbeltown whisky coin at Springbank — the folk who come for the bottles, and the fans who stay for the community — while musing on the Scottish region's exciting future.

Tomatin adds 12 Years Old Sherry Cask to core range 24/05/2024

There's something about... sherry casks 🥃 ❤️

Although their introduction to the whisky industry came of necessity rather than choice, sherry casks continue to hold a special place in the hearts of many whisky lovers. Whether it's the dry nuttiness of oloroso, the salinity and citric bite of Manzanilla, or the rich, raisiny indulgence of Pedro Ximénez, there is a sherry cask-matured or finished whisky out there to tickle every whisky drinker's fancy.

Despite the premium price tag they can carry, distillers (particularly in Scotland) continue to source top-notch ex-sherry or sherry-seasoned casks to quench the thirst for the spirits they produce. One of the latest examples to hit shelves is this 12 Years Old Sherry Cask from — a fully sherry cask-matured version of its beloved 12 Years Old Highland single malt.

Say hello to the new Strathearn single malt ⛰️🥃

Douglas Laing & Co, which bought Strathearn in 2019, has announced the release of its inaugural single malt whisky from the Highland distillery.
