ORLANDO / Collection #001

Inspired by Virginia Woolf's protagonist "Orlando" and launching exclusively this summer.

Collection #001 imagines Orlando living in the 1990s and focuses on the idea of addressing a person for who they are and how they behave. Identity should not be defined only by gender, sexuality or social norms. We as individuals are multiple, unique, singular and should be free to be and become.

We have also chosen to do away with seasonality as much as possible and follow our protagonist's journey throughout the year - imagining what they would wear at any given time.

We see clothes as words that give the wearer the opportunity to create their own stories.

All of our product is handmade in London.

I always wonder how many books most people are reading at any one time.

I usually only have one book at a time on the go but at the moment I find myself flipping between multiple books. Though I feel that it kind of works with these as most of them are a collection of shorts so I can read one piece from each book at a time without loosing the flow.⁠

A unisex hooded Macintosh with removable mask.

A corner of my studio. I wanted a space which wasn't just for working or mixing scents. But one that celebrates and inspires creative process.

It's also become a bit of a gallery of sorts with works from friends filling the small space.

The corner is filled with some early works from my friend with whom I collaborated on our fragrance On the Road. I love the light that they shed into the darkness when I work late at night.

What are you reading this summer?

I love books and everyone of my fragrances is inspired by an iconic work of literature which has helped to inform contemporary culture.

She Came to Stay is a semi-autobiographical novel written by Simone de Beauvoir about her relationship with the French philosopher Jean Paul Sartre in Paris at the start of WW2. Alongside de Beauvoir's second novel, The Second S*x, this highly influential novel is arguably considered to mark the start of modern feminism.

I took the story as inspiration to create a gender neutral perfume that echoes the evolving nature of our sense of self when faced with a world on the edge of change. Much as I would have imagined de Beauvoir's musings at the time. It uses some very traditional fragrance ingredients but it's mix of ratios is put together in a way that is both familiar and yet unfamiliar.

In addition to making perfumes, I offer people a chance to purchase new and vintage editions of the novels which inspired me. Each delivered with a sample of the perfume which resulted.

Welcome to the second of our bedside series, where together with , I speak to and celebrate my friends through their most intimate and telling space: the bedside table. From well-worn novellas to classical tomes, cups of coffee and personal totems from afar: what we are keeping close in this time of introspection are signals of who we are and where we imagine ourselves to be.⁠⠀⁠

The launch of our new perfume Heart of Darkness which was inspired by Joseph Conrad's 1899 novella. Held at Flowers Gallery where we created an installation featuring the artwork of Nicola Hicks surrounded in a scented mist composed of three unique fragrances (jungle, boat, and ivory) which combined to create Heart of Darkness.
Paul Tvaroh provided two unique drinks. A champagne cocktail into which a chrysalis was placed to reveal a butterfly and a drinkable version of our perfume.
