«William Klein fotografió a Tatsumi Hijikata, Kazuo Ohno y Yosh*to Ohno en Tokio en 1961. Este ‘Dance Happening’ capturado por Klein muestra al grupo de bailarines caminando por el distrito de Ginza, improvisando y bailando. ‘Dance Happening’ es la única pieza fotográfica que capturó a estos tres legendarios bailarines de Butoh juntos.

Además de presentar el Butoh y la danza en sí, THREE es también un intento de archivar el Butoh, incorporando video, exposición, performance y tecnología de realidad virtual. Takao Kawaguchi, Dai Matsuoka y Mikiko Kawamura copian con precisión la coreografía de los tres legendarios bailarines de Butoh: Kazuo Ohno, Tatsumi Hijikata y Yosh*to Ohno. Houses of Zodiac will be performed at the Broad in LA in this June!
This collaboration between composer Paola Prestini, cellist Jeffrey Zeigler, Sankai Juku dancer Dai Matsuoka, New York City Ballet dancer Georgina Pazcoguin, and filmmaker Murat Eyuboglu explore the intersection of mind, body, and nature. Houses of Zodiac is a series of live cello solos and dance, with lush filmic visuals and poetic interludes by Pablo Neruda, Anaïs Nin, Brenda Shaughnessy, and Natasha Tretheway underscored by Zeigler along with musicians such as Nels Cline and Tanya Tagaq.

PHILIPPINE BUTOH ONLINE WORKSHOP SERIES 2021
October 8 to December 10, 2021

This is an online movement workshop series that intends to reintroduce Japanese Butoh dance in the Philippines and integrating the form to the context of Philippine indigenous wisdom and ritualistic practices.

We invite 6 international Japanese Butoh artists from Japan, Germany and Italy that will share their artistic practice and will be collaborating with co-facilitator, Sasa Cabalquinto, in integrating a Butoh exercise into the context of a ” Filipino body".

This workshop series is open to no specific age, gender, religion or racial identity— all are welcome and encouraged to express one's self without inhibition. There is no requirement for dance or theater background as well.

The workshops are FREE for local participants in the Philippines. We are also opening this project for international participants on a donation-basis. Please be advised on the timezone difference.

Dai Matsuoka now collaborates with Paola Prestini, Composer and National Sawdust Co-Founder and Artistic Director, on her new album "ZODIAC".

"ZODIAC is more of an exploration of the body, movement, and finding new modes of expression while collaborating across distances between two of Jeff’s and my favorite dancers: Tokyo-based Butoh master Dai Matsuoka and NYCB ballerina Georgina Pazcoguin. We’ll be filming with our longtime collaborator and friend Murat Eyuboglu (we did The Colorado together) up at MASS MoCA and with Dai in Japan later this month! The work will have multiple modes of dissemination, as a digital album, an LP, a museum work, a digital experience, and finally one day, a live performance. "
