KUSHINDWA KUKOJOA (Difficulty voiding)?
BENIGN PROSTATE HYPERPLASIA (BPH)
This a common problem in men 50 years of age and older. The prostate is an organ that sits directly under the bladder and surrounds the first part of the urethra (the tube that carries urine) as it comes out of the bladder.
The enlargement of that organ compresses the URETHRA causing urine blockage. It can be benign or cancerous. Most common one is benign.
SIGNS AND SYMPTOMS
1. Frequent or urgent urination (can’t hold urine)
2. Difficulty starting urine
3. Weak flow of urine
4. Inability to completely empty the bladder
5. Continues drops 💧 (dribbling) after you finish urinating.
6. Inability to void (total blockage) when the condition becomes severe
7. Frequent urination at night
COMPLICATIONS OF BPH.
If you don’t treat prostate hyperplasia it may result in:
1. Kidney failure
2. Unitary tract infection
3. Damage to the bladder
4. Sudden blockage
5. Stones in the bladder
DIAGNOSTIC TESTS
1. Re**al exam. The doctor will palpate the prostate with finger through the re**um
2. PSA blood test
3. Urine test
4. Cystoscopy
5. Prostate biopsy to rule out cancer.
TREATMENT
1. Kegel exercise (non invasive)
2. Medications such as: Flomax
3. Catheter (temporary solution)
4. Surgery: Transurethral resection TURP
5. Laser therapy
6. UroLift
7. Rezum therapy.
Among many others.
The best way is to manage BPH is by treating the symptoms while moderate. Don’t wait until your urine is completely blocked. Manage with Alpha Blockers or 5-alpha reductase inhibitors.

History repeating itself ...
Congratulations BRIGID KOSGEI in advance.
MY heart goes to the family of the late Tirop of ollesos ward of Nandi county following the brutal murder by trigger happy policeman .
To shoot and kill unarmed person living with disability is the utmost sense of senselessness and lawlessness of a kind.Akin to Floyd murder in the USA;we are not breathing and ordinary citizens' lives matter.
May I take this opportunity also to convey my heartfelt condolences to the families of the three who lost their lives today following subsequent shootings by the same police station officers.
Quick recovery to those nursing injuries at various hospitals in Nandi and Uasin Gishu counties.
IPOA are now tasked to ensure Justice is served..
