A little preview of the yarn coming to the shop update tomorrow morning!

In order of the photos: Classic DK, Standard Sock Sets, Simple Sock, and the last photo is Suri Silk & Silky Sock. Please note that these photos do not accurately represent all of the inventory count - many of these colorways have sweater quantity availability! If you'd like to know about a particular colorway's stock, please don't hesitate to ask!

I have also realized as I'm writing this that I left out a few colors of Silky Sock and new colors on Summer Sock from these photos. 🫣 I'll add those to my Stories in a bit! Also, check out my Stories today for a deeper look into everything that will be a part of the update!

My post-fiber fest shop update is TOMORROW, October 4th, at 10am Central! In addition to this yarn, there will be project bags, the Fiber Friends Tote Bag preorder, and expanding offerings of ChiaoGoo interchangeable needles & cords!

Trying to photograph socks when you have a dog: a series. πŸ˜‚

I thought my first finished pair of socks EVER deserved a little modeled photoshoot. Bear, however, did not like that I was using his spot on the bed to do it. πŸ˜‚

I used leftovers from crocheting my Lakewood Cowl and an extra mini to knit these. I knew I didn't have enough of the variegated to make a matching pair of socks, so I decided to have them be opposite! Only to realize I didn't have enough of the tonal, either. Oops. 🫣 So I supplemented my leftovers with the additional mini I mentioned.

I really enjoyed knitting these. I'm generally not a sock knitter and that's partially because the small circumference knitting is hard on my hands. Thankfully, everything was smooth sailing (in terms of hand pain, anyway) after the first cuff.

Pattern: Weekend Shorty Socks by .lee.knits
Yarn: Little Old Me? Standard Sock Set

In case you missed it, I'm having my post-fiber fest shop update this Friday, October 4th, at 10am Central. Unfortunately, it doesn't include any of these sock sets, but there are some other sock sets that will be available! The update also includes more yarn, expanded ChiaoGoo offerings, project bags, and the Fiber Friends Tote Bag preorder!

Happy October 1st! Theoretically, it's now Fall, but can someone tell Houston that? Our high is 95Β° today. πŸ₯΅

This summer was a season of trying new things for me! It's been awhile since I've truly tried something new, and I have to say that I really enjoyed all the things I tried! While I don't like being bad at things, broadening my horizons has been really nice.

Pictured here are a few of the results of trying new things!

I took a class from at and got to make the circle weaving in the upper right. So. Much. Fun. It's one of those hobbies I put off learning because I figured I would start collecting even more yarn. πŸ˜… But honestly, it's made me look at my stash differently and now there's so many more possibilities!

I also took a spinning class from this summer! Too many of my dyer friends starting dyeing gorgeous fiber, so I had to learn to spin. Definitely still have room for improvement, but oddly proud of my tiny little hand spun skein in the middle. I have such a big fiber stash now, so it's time for me to get back to practicing spinning!

I didn't take a class for these, but it's definitely new for me - finishing a pair of socks! Yup, you read correctly. Those socks in the bottom right are my first ever pair of finished socks... after almost a decade of knitting. πŸ˜…

And last, but certainly not least, I took a ceramics class! I had the pleasure of using a pottery wheel to create those two little bowls on the left. The purple one is the perfect size for a mini skeins cake! I love pottery so much and to be honest, I'm desperate to take a more in depth class and get my hands back into the mud!

I didn't really go into the summer with the thought of "let's try a bunch of new things," but when the opportunities to take these classes locally, I had to jump on them!

Have you taken a class or tried anything new lately? I'd love to hear about it!

Now that I've had a day to rest after getting back home, I want to give a huge thank you to everyone at !!

Thank you to everyone who stopped by my booth, made a purchase, or chatted with us! I love getting to see you all each year and especially love when you bring me your projects in my yarn to see! πŸ₯Ή I hope you all love your purchases and I cannot wait to see how you use all your goodies!

A huge thank you as always is owed to the DFW Fiber Fest board and volunteers - you folks are AMAZING and make this event better and better each year!

Biggest thank you of all goes to my friends and family who helped me get back to DFW Fiber Fest this year. There's always a hiccup or two and I could never do it all on my own. Wouldn't be here without you. πŸ’œ

For those that didn't get to attend, I will be having my post-fiber fest shop update soon! When would work best for you?

Photos from Heathered Handmades's post 21/09/2024

Good morning from day 2 of !!

Come see me in Booth 629 in the back near the Fiberatory! There's still some Fiber Friends Tote Bags left and of course I have to show off my samples!

There's a few colors on certain bases that have already sold out, so if you're looking for something in particular, you might want to come quickly! (But if you really love a color, I'm happy to do dyed to order for most things. πŸ’œ)

Debuting at this weekend - I'm Plum Outta Ideas! πŸ’œ

I had the hardest time coming up with a name for this colorway. I'll admit to searching the internet with all sorts of prompts... including purple puns. When I saw "I'm plum out of ideas," it kinda stuck. Plus, it felt really fitting. πŸ˜‚

I hope you all love this new color as much as I do. I've been wanting to create something like this for so long and finally did it! I don't have a swatch or sample of it yet, but it's dyed just like Little Old Me? so it should work up similarly!

I'm Plum Outta Ideas will be available on Simple Sock, Classic DK, and Standard Sock Sets (paired with Blueberry Basil).

New project bags coming to !! πŸ₯³

Last year I had bags that featured some of my alcohol ink artwork, but this year's bags are a little different! This summer I tried painting with fluid acrylics and a squeegee in a sketchbook. Some of the pieces I loved so much that I absolutely had to turn a few into project bags!

Swipe through to see the bags with the original artworks!

(The rainbow alcohol ink bag is back this year, too. But these three had to have their own time to shine!)

16/09/2024

Silky Sock is back for !! πŸ₯³

Silky Sock is exactly what it sounds like - a silky sock base! It's 50% silk, 50% superwash merino and 438 yards per 100 gram skein. Once you've squished this base, you'll know why I love it so much! It's cool to the touch, amazingly soft, and the sheen is glorious!

Last year I knit a Classic LBD in it and will have the sample on display again this year! You can scroll back through my feed to see it (I'll share in my Stories as well).

Shown in the photo are all the colorways that will be available. There's even a new one in there. πŸ˜‰

14/09/2024

We may not have Fall weather for next week, but I will have Hello Fall the colorway with me! πŸ‚ Maybe we can collectively will the temperature to be cooler? (A girl can dream. πŸ˜…)

Hello Fall is always a favorite, so I absolutely had to bring it back! 🀎 I'll have some on each of the bases shown in this photo - Simple Sock, Classic DK, and Suri Silk.

11/09/2024

It's just over a week away, so I figured it was past time to officially announce that I'll be back to vend at my 3rd !

Over the next week I'll be highlighting some of the goodies coming with me! I can't wait to show you some of what I've cooked up!

πŸ“’ LAST DAY TO ORDER πŸ“’

Promise this is the last time I yell at you! (I'm not really yelling, but I think you get the point.)

Today, August 1st, at 5pm Central, I'll be shutting down the listings for the Care Bears Countdown. I wanted to make one more post in case you missed the other. I'd hate for you to miss out! And yes, showing my face to maybe appease the algorithm?

Do you like rainbows? Tonals? How about those cute & colorful bears from the 80s? If you said yes to those, than this countdown is for you! It'll be 21 days (counting down to the Winter Solstice!) of fun, nostalgic goodness in yarn form.

Leave any questions you have below or in my inbox! I'll do my best to answer quickly!

πŸ“’ CARE BEARS COUNTDOWN CLOSES AUGUST 1ST πŸ“’

Hope that got your attention. πŸ˜… Sorry for yelling, but I wanted to make sure you got the message! I will be closing down the preorder for the Care Bears Countdown on August 1st at 5pm Central! That way I can start placing orders for the goodies and inform my collaborators how many boxes we will be fulfilling!

In case you missed it, this year I am partnering with , , and to bring you a 21 day yarny countdown to the Winter Solstice! Winter Solstice is the shortest day of the year (aka the day with the least amount of sunlight)... so I thought counting down with a rainbow of yarn based on everyone's favorite bears from childhood would be such a bright spot in your otherwise dark winter days! 🌈

Each countdown box comes with 21 mini skeins based on the Care Bears (your choice of base), a stitch marker set from Twines & Lines (prefect for knitting or crocheting!), and some fun extras from me. You can also add on a themed project bag from Stellar Needlecraft, the Snicklefritz knit pullover pattern from Ginger Dog Knits, and/or full skein(s) of a contrast color! To say I'm excited about all the extras is putting it mildly. They're all awesome!

If you could please share this with your yarny friends, I'd be very appreciative! πŸ’œ

TLDR; listings close August 1st at 5pm Central.

15/07/2024

πŸ’š Tealberry Buzz πŸ’™

Say hello to the brand new colorway that's a part of the Summer Sock launch! This one is for my teal lovers! Tealberry Buzz was born out of a desire to have a teal that was darker than Wishful Thinking and similar in depth to Blueberry Basil... and I have to say I think it lives up to that desire! It's name, well... it's just silly! πŸ˜‚ I decided I wanted the name to be similar in feeling to Blueberry Basil and I just couldn't get Tealberry out of my head. πŸ˜…

This is actually the color I'm crocheting my Spencer Top with!

The twisted skeins are Summer Sock (50% superwash merino, 50% pima cotton) and the opened skein is Simple Sock (100% superwash merino).

Summer Sock is launching TONIGHT (Friday) at 5pm Central for a limited in-stock update. If needed, I'll open up a quick preorder.

27/06/2024

β˜€οΈSUMMER SOCKβ˜€οΈ

I've been sharing these pairings all week, but I thought it would be fun to see them all together!

This base is truly fabulous. I have 2 WIPs in it right now and had to stop myself from casting on more! The fabric Summer Sock creates is just so lovely! It's perfect for knit and crochet tees and tanks! And tbh, I'll probably wear them year round!

There's one more *brand new* color that I'll share tomorrow before the launch! 🀫

Summer Sock is a fi*****ng weight blend of 50% superwash merino and 50% pima cotton. It's launching TOMORROW (Friday) at 5pm Central for a limited in-stock update. If things go quickly, I'll open up a quick preorder. πŸ’œ

26/06/2024

🩢 Eraser Dust & Dahlia 🧑

Our last pairing for the Summer Sock launch is Eraser Dust & Dahlia! A grey is always a good color to have around and somehow I'm always surprised with y'alls love for Dahlia! Such a nice, light peachy color.

The twisted skeins are the new Summer Sock (50% superwash merino, 50% pima cotton) and the opened skeins are Simple Sock (100% superwash merino). On the left is Eraser Dust and the right is Dahlia. Even though these two are lighter colors, they're even lighter on Summer Sock! So soft & lovely. πŸ’œ

Summer Sock is launching on Friday at 5pm Central for a limited in-stock update. Do you want me to open a preorder for these colors? It would be a quick 2-4 week turnaround!

25/06/2024

πŸ’š Wishful Thinking & Eucalyptus πŸ’™

Where are my teal lovers?? I know you're out there because these two were right on up there with the purples in my poll! Sidenote - y'all, why isn't there a teal heart emoji??

The twisted skeins are the new Summer Sock (50% superwash merino, 50% pima cotton) and the opened skeins are Simple Sock and Classic DK (both 100% superwash merino). Wishful Thinking is on the left and Eucalyptus is on the right.

Compared to Wishful Thinking, I know Eucalyptus reads as more of a grey, but I promise that it's still teal! I do love how these two play off of each other! And how different Summer Sock is for Wishful Thinking!

Summer Sock is launching on Friday at 5pm Central for a limited in-stock update. Do you want me to open a preorder for these colors? It would be a quick 2-4 week turnaround!

24/06/2024

πŸ’œ Blueberry Basil & Heart-Shaped Herb πŸ’œ

I love how much y'all love purple. πŸ’œ These two were on the top of the list of what colors my newsletter subscribers wanted to see on the new Summer Sock!

I love them on their own, but I thought it would be helpful to see these colors on a normal merino base as well. The twisted skeins are the new Summer Sock (50% superwash merino, 50% pima cotton) and the opened skeins are Simple Sock (100% superwash merino). On the left is Blueberry Basil and the right is Heart-Shaped Herb. Don't you just love how differently Summer Sock takes the dye??

Summer Sock is launching on Friday for a limited in-stock update. If needed, I can open a preorder as well. Vote in my Stories today for what time you want to update to occur!

20/06/2024

Allow me to formally introduce Summer Sock!

Summer Sock is exactly what it sounds like - a fi*****ng weight summer blend! It's 50% superwash merino and 50% pima cotton! Since the cotton doesn't take the acid dyes I use, we end up with a lovely heathered effect and colorways that are much lighter! And y'all, the fabric it creates is so wearable!

Shown here is Summer Sock in the colorway Blueberry Basil. Can you believe this light purple is really Blueberry Basil? Wild, right? Blueberry Basil is usually one of my darkest, richest purples and here it is all pale and lovely!

My newsletter subscribers were given the opportunity to vote on which colors I should dye on this new base, and Blueberry Basil was the top vote! Which is good, because I was already working up a sample in it! Though, it is the knit tank in my last post that I have to frog. 🫣

What colors do you want to see on this new summer base?? I'll share the Google Form to vote in my Stories, but you can comment below, too!

I'll be launching Summer Sock as limited in stock and preorder, if we need it! How does next Friday sound to you?

---

Apologies if the photo looks grey on your screen. The color is actually purple, but it's hard to edit on the screen. πŸ™ˆ I promise other pictures will show it off better!

18/06/2024

There's nothing quite like having multiple projects going and failing at all of them. πŸ˜…

Have you ever had to rip out a project that was more than half finished? I'll admit that I haven't. At least not for garments. But both of the projects shown here I have epically failed.

Don't get me wrong, they look pretty good in this photo. The problem is me. 🫣 The crochet tank in the upper left has actually already been ripped out (hence the smaller balls of that color that you see). What was the issue? It was too big. I tried it on several times and didn't realize it until the body was close to half finished. πŸ™ƒ So I ripped back to the underarms. My row gauge is perfect. Apparently my stitch gauge is not! Oops.

The knit project on the bottom? Oof this one hurts. I split for the front & back yesterday, knit several inches on the front, and then tried it on. Honestly, it may be even bigger than the crochet project was. 😭 And this one hurts so much more because of how much longer knitting takes than crocheting. Not to mention that I plugged my gauge into the handy spreadsheet that Jen provides with this pattern and still managed to screw it up! Clearly my gauge swatch wasn't big enough, because my tank is at least 3.5 inches larger than it should be. I just can't bring myself to frog it yet.

ALL THIS TO SAY it pays to listen when people, especially designers, tell you to make a big gauge swatch. Oh, and try your projects on, if you can, before they're 2/3 finished. πŸ˜…

Do you love Care Bears? Rainbows? How about yarn?

If you answered yes to those questions, then oh, do I have just the thing for you! Let me tell you a little bit about my Care Bears Countdown!

The Care Bears Countdown comes with 21 indivdually packaged mini skeins, designed so that you can open one a day from December 1st to the Winter Solstice on December 21st. Basically a little daily present! Each of those minis will be dyed to represent a bear. As the nights get longer, what could be better than opening a little joyful package full of color?

In addition to the yarn, the countdown comes with a set of custom Care Bear inspired stitch markers from the lovely ! There's also a few themed extras I'm going to add, but those are a secret! 🀫

But that's not all! What's more perfect to add on to your countdown than a project bag? The amazing Laura of is making us bags! These are very limited and therefore an optional add-on, because one human only has so much sewing time!

You can also add on contrast color full skeins! If you're planning on working up a project with your countdown that needs a contrast color, this is exactly what you need! You can add on as many full skeins as you'd like to your countdown. The color is a secret, but trust me, it's the perfect contrast to the minis!

Last, but certainly not least, is an optional pattern add on! Are you a knitter? Do you like to knit pullovers? Then you'll definitely want to add on Snicklefritz by to your countdown! By purchasing now, you're guaranteed to have the pattern delivered digitally right in time to start opening your countdown!

So what are you waiting for? Go preorder yours now so we can count down to the Winter Solstice together in fun, rainbow style! 🌈

11/06/2024

Packed up this order of Houston Baseball colors yesterday and just had to share. πŸ’™

It also gives me the chance to remind you that the Houston Baseball colors are available dyed to order until the end of baseball season! ⚾️ There's a few skeins ready to ship as well and you can 100% add both to an order! It'll all ship once your dyed to order yarn is ready.

And I'd be remiss if I didn't remind you that the Care Bears Countdown is available for preorder! Shipping in November to be to you in time to start opening on December 1st!

08/06/2024

I have both been in public today and knit, but not at the same time. πŸ˜‚

To be honest, it's way too hot outside here to work with yarn. I know I don't have to be *outside* for Knit in Public Day, but the public I had planned was a swim meet, which is outside. πŸ˜…

This photo (while admittedly not from today) is one of my current WIPs! It's Soft Walk by knit in a new base! I'll share more about it later, but for now just know that I think you'll love it. πŸ˜‰

While we're here, I'm intrigued by the conversations I've been seeing on Threads about changing the name of Worldwide Knit In Public Day to be more craft inclusive. Stitch in Public or Craft in Public are suggestions I've seen. What do you think? I'd certainly like it to be more inclusive! Or make another day for crocheting and other fiber arts!

P.s. - The Care Bears Countdown is officially available for preorder! You don't want to miss this super fun & nostalgic countdown!

07/06/2024

Today's the day!! The Care Bears Countdown is now available for preorder!

Order yours now: https://heatheredhandmades.com/care-bears-countdown/

Anyone else love Care Bears as a kid? πŸ™‹πŸΌβ€β™€οΈ I definitely did! So this year, I decided it was time to share that love in yarn form! πŸ’œ

On June 7th at 5pm Central, I'll be launching myΒ Care Bears Countdown! We'll be counting down to the 2024 Winter Solstice in fun, nostalgic, rainbow style!

So here's the deets:

Each countdown box includes:
21 tonal mini skeins
1 themed stitch marker set from
+ other fun extras!

OPTIONAL add-ons for your box:
A themed project bag (limited) fromΒ
Knit sweater pattern fromΒ
Full skein contrast color

I am SO excited about every little thing going into these advents. Collaborating with these three lovely makers has been amazing and I CANNOT wait for you to see what everyone has cooked up!

If you loved Care Bears as a kid, or even just love rainbows, you won't want to miss this countdown!

Who was your favorite bear? Mine was Bright Heart! πŸ’œ Well, technically a raccoon and one of the Cousins, but still counts!!

Photos from Heathered Handmades's post 06/06/2024

We're just under 24 hours away from the launch for the Care Bears Countdown!!

I wanted to take today to highlight the optional add-ons to the countdown.

First up, we have the knit sweater pattern from ! The pullover pattern is named Snicklefritz, Catherine wrote both a DK and fi*****ng weight version, and it is going to be perfect for advents! By purchasing the pattern with your countdown, you'll have the pattern digitally sent to you (via email or Ravelry) on publishing day! So you'll be ready to go when you start opening your countdown! (Also, please note that the photos in slide 2-3 are not spoilers for the countdown!)

Second, we have a hand sewn project bag by ! These bags will be very limited (one human can only sew so much!), so if you want one, I'd suggest snagging one early! They'll be Laura's medium sized bag which hold up to 4 regular sized skeins, have a wrist strap, and an interior pocket! Laura makes beautiful project bags and I'm so stoked to have them as a part of this countdown! (Photos 5-7 show examples of her medium bags - the countdown bag will be different!)

And lastly, the full skein contrast color! The standard countdown box has the 21 minis, but if you're going to knit Snicklefritz you're going to need a contrast color! Well, for Snicklefritz it's the MC, but I think you know what I mean. ;) You can order as many skeins as you need for your contrast! In my Stories y'all voted and said you'd at least like a hint about what the color will be, so how about three? 1. It's a neutral. 2. It's perfect to go with a rainbow. 3. What do all Care Bears have in common?

Alright! I think that's everything I needed to tell you! Do you have any questions? Any thoughts? Hit me up! I'm all ears!

Mark your calendar (or hit the "remind me" button) for TOMORROW June 7th at 5pm Central! The Care Bears Countdown will be launching, along with these optional extras.

Videos (show all)

I've shown you this finished knit before, but I've never properly shown off the yarns! And one of them is a color I spec...
Houston Fiber Fest is this weekend and I'm one of their virtual vendors!!Unfortunately, I will be out of town this weeke...
