This year, Infinity Pageants, is helping Donovan Jonker with his journey! We encourage everyone to walk this journey with us!

Donovan Jonker was diagnosed with chronic kidney disease in January 2023. He is 25 years old, and has been his whole life an active sportsman and especially focused on his rugby career. Due to his illness he is no longer able to pursue in his dream of becoming a professional rugby player.

Kidney failure is the most severe stage of kidney disease and this is a condition in which one or both of your kidneys no longer work on their own. Donovan experiences difficulty breathing, suffering of
extreme tiredness, nausea and vomiting. He has a lot of swelling particularly around his ankles and also experience muscle spasms. Kidney failure is fatal without treatment.

Due to financial reasons Donovan is not able to afford a medical aid. From date of diagnosis he has been receiving treatment from the State Hospital. He is currently receiving dialysis 3 times a week – this treatment helps your body to filter blood and to drain excess water as well as toxins. The hospital that he needs to attend to for this treatment is based in Johannesburg. Donovan’s father
is also currently undergoing numerous tests at the same hospital, to establish whether he is a match to be a kidney donor for him. He also attends to the hospital frequently for the required tests to be
taken. The travelling expenses is taking a huge toll in their finances to be at the hospital at all times when needed.

Being a kidney failure patient, there are also special needs for Donovan – he cannot be exposed to germs and when receiving a transplant, it is required that he must have his own bathroom. A new bathroom must still be built to their family home before he can receive a transplant. His family has managed to install an air conditioner in the meantime to help him breath more easily as he experiences difficulty breathing often and this causes him not to have a healthy sleeping pattern.

Once the transplant has taken place, both Donovan and his father must visit the hospital for aftercare treatment and receiving the necessary medication.

I recently had the opportunity to spend an exciting day with our Infinity Pageants, Role Models and Photographers. This was a real journey that lasted for a day.

Every day we discover new ideas and opportunities that we had never dreamed of before.

Especially valuable, was the opportunity to work in a team where everyone contributed. Our joint efforts not only strengthened our team, but also gave us unforgettable emotions and inspiration.

This project has become a great motivation for us to work on our future plans!

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and is a global health campaign aimed at raising awareness about breast cancer, promoting early detection, and providing information and support to individuals and communities affected by the disease. 🩷🩷

Breast cancer is one of the most common forms of cancer among women worldwide, and early detection can significantly improve treatment outcomes.

This month on Fridays we will do the following to support the fight to raise awareness about breast cancer as well as to show support for those who are fighting or survived the disease.

My journey as an Infinity Pageant.
As Finalist, I learned and realized how important it is to be as humble as I could be.

Nothing can ever stop me for being in the same position as the less fortunate that I know.

As a believer, I believe that no matter the circumstances of someone, that does not define them as a person.

When I first started Charity at a very young age, I never thought that it would give me the feeling of happiness and satisfaction of seeing smiles of people who appreciate the little things in life.

In my journey sofar, I have joined hands with the Hillside Care Centre for the elderly and frail care, where I have realized how valuable life really is. Never take a single day in life for granted.

Our little sunflower pots which were planted with love. I have also seen how these little ones grow. My saying to this was to water the little plant in how you would water your life with Prayer. My reason behind this was to, it does not matter in what mood you wake up, or day you have, this little pot with the sunflower gives you encouragement with the head facing to the sun and keeping your head up high.

I realized that a door can be closed on me anytime, never to think that I am better than anyone else. Therefore I have to thankful to the things and people who I surround myself with.

My journey as a Finalist have changed me into a better Me. I always try and be better than what I was the day before.

As a Finalist a promise to wear my Sash with dignity, pride respect and the utmost honor.

The wearing of the sash puts me in a position to change people's lives around me for the better. I realize I cannot change another person's life or situation, but I can give my best in assisting and making them feel better about themselves with the time I have to spend with them.

This journey has given me pride not only in becoming a better version of me, but I have also got to know me better as a person. 💙

We and our fellow humans are in desperate need of help.

We need assistance for mattresses, clothes and everything that can possibly make the lives of the people from Villa Gloria's stress and life better.

We will never be able to give back and recover their own vulnerable things, but together we can make a difference in their current situation by donating things that would temporarily make their lives and the lives of the WAS Foundation easier.
