📢🍀 4-Hers: Want to participate in the new Bucket of Flowers class at the 2022 Des Moines County Fair?

Join the Des Moines County Master Gardeners for a workshop on how to prepare your bucket for planting and growing an attractive, healthy bucket of flowers! Attendees will leave the workshop with a bucket of potting soil ready for plants and the knowledge to be successful for the fair!

Market Beef Weigh-in is scheduled for Saturday, December 18, 2021, from 8:00-11:00 a.m. at the Des Moines County Fairgrounds.

You must have calf registration number or Sire name and/or registration number if you plan to show in a registered pure-bred class.

Iowa State Fair Beef Exhibitors: We will be retinal scanning. The cost is $5.00 per head.

Reminder October meeting is this Sunday 2 pm at Bob Dodds. We will be electing officers and doing a fun fall craft! Check the Heja app for more info!

Our 7th grade members painted our club's "funky chicken" for the 4H online auction. Great job girls!

February meeting - we made watercolor art on canvas using Sharpies and rubbing alcohol.

Last night our December meeting was held at Feathers & Fur Farmstead. After our business meeting, we made rustic Christmas ornaments out of ribbon and sticks. The members also chose crafts for our next 3 meetings. Then we went Christmas caroling at residents of senior citizens who have probably spent a lot of time home alone during Covid. Unfortunately it was COLD and we were all frozen after 5 stops because it was very enjoyable and the residents all seemed to enjoy it.

Join Iowa 4-H and the State 4-H Council in reaching our goal of 10,000 food items donated by December 1st! 🍀🥫

The State 4-H Council’s statewide food drive is underway in counties across Iowa! 2,340 non-perishable food items have been donated so far. All food items will be donated locally to organizations in need.

Tonight was our first meeting of the year. We brainstormed ideas for this year's meeting with the Covid safety restrictions and made Thankful Pumpkins.
December's meeting will be Christmas caroling at Danville houses where the residents haven't gotten out much during Covid, business meeting and making cute Christmas ornaments. Date and more info coming soon.

Reminder - 1st meeting of the year is this Sunday, Nov 15th at 5pm at Feathers & Fur Farmstead (Freitag's Farm)! Members please bring your mom (or another adult if you choose), a small pumpkin, at least 1 black Sharpie marker, and your meeting ideas for the year. If you completed your record book, bravo!, (we were going to have a meeting on how to do these last spring but Covid hit) please bring that to be turned in. No food or drink will be served per guidelines, we will discuss plans for future meetings refreshments. Looking forward to seeing everyone on Sunday!

Be on the look out for Auction Info...Steffes Group is setting up the link for you to submit 3 Pictures of each animal you put in the auction. They are also providing all DMC Fair Auction Exhibitiors a FREE T-shirt ( dark gray with this logo on the back) But the Deadline is short!! Need the Exhibitors Name and Shirt Size by Wednesday July 15th. Send the info in a text to 641-295-3194.

IMPORTANT: Update on Retinal Imaging for State Fair

This was just sent to us from the State 4-H office. Please read!

In lieu of the COVID-19 situation and its effect on the collection of retinal images, the Iowa 4-H Program in cooperation and approval from the Iowa State Fair Board has decided to forego the retinal imaging requirement for sheep and meat goats for this upcoming Iowa State Fair 4-H show.

4-H sheep and meat goats (both breeding and market animals) will be required to upload 3 (three) photos into 4-H Online by the June 1 ID deadline. 4-H Online has been updated with photo upload fields.

The three (3) photos must include one of each of the following:
Clear, readable picture of the 4-H/USDA tag in the animal’s ear
Left, full side view of the animal
Right, full side view of the animal

All other required fields in 4-H Online will still be needed for identification purposes (i.e. tattoo numbers, birthdates, etc. as needed for the particular species).

If circumstances change in the future, this policy may be re-visited depending on the situation and any feasibility of collecting images. We would like to stay consistent and treat all animals (sheep and meat goats) fairly in this regard.
