It's a very different sky today.
It's looking like an overcast, gray few days here at the coast after Ian, but it's still lovely.
This one is from six months ago, but at least I'm finally poking through them. I definitely need another vacation.
It's from a phone and nothing fancy, but it was nice to get out to the Blue Ridge for a few hours on Sunday.
With life normalizing a bit, I'm sincerely hoping to take some time off soon and once again take in more of this region's natural beauty.
Yes, Facebook, I know the past year has sucked. I'm still here, guys, I promise. Hopefully back putting my hobbies to use soon!
Oh, hey there! Remember me? Yeah... 2020 was a doozy. There weren't many opportunities to sing, obviously, and I haven't taken a "legit" photograph in nearly a year.
In related news, after 11 years with the same photo host, I realized this year I could no longer justify the expense and moved my work over to a free Flickr account (which happens to now be owned by my previous host). I also opened my published photos up via Creative Commons licenses and removed the watermarks. So, check me out and follow me over at https://www.flickr.com/photos/chrisnowlan/.

Clouds on the Parkway may obstruct the wider views, but they add so much beautiful drama to otherwise overlooked scenes.
"Flames"
Took a day trip to Hanging Rock and Pilot Mountain State Parks last week. It was a joy to finally be out in nature again and the weather was gorgeous.
"Do Dot Go Gentle"
There's just something irresistible about a beautifully gnarled tree standing alone.

"Into the Clouds"
For today:
"Angels, where you soar
Up to God’s own light,
Take my own lost bird
On your hearts tonight;
And as grief once more
Mounts to heaven and sings,
Let my love be heard
Whispering in your wings."

Here's another one from the unpublished archives. One of my favorite selections, which I hope to record again soon with a little fuller voice.

Homeward Bound (LIVE) – Christopher Nowlan In the quiet misty morning When the moon has gone to bed, When the sparrows stop their singing And the sky is clear and red.
I started digging through old files today and thought I would see what I could pull out of some audio recordings from last year.
Here's the first: http://christophernowlan.com/song/the-house-of-life-silent-noon-live/
The House of Life – Silent Noon (LIVE) – Christopher Nowlan Your hands lie open in the long fresh grass,— The finger-points look through like rosy blooms: Your eyes smile peace. The pasture gleams and glooms ‘Neath billowing skies that scatter and amass. All round our nest, far as the eye can pass, Are golden kingcup fields with silver edge Where the cow...

Traditional Worship (August 12, 2018) - Remarkable (Part 2/5): "A Methodist Rejoices in God"
Lest you think I've only been taking photos lately (which, to be fair, is kind of true), I had the opportunity to sing an old favorite at Mill Grove UMC this morning.

Starting to work on some of the photos from my weekend away in Boone, NC. Given that I didn't have my ND filters or tripod with me, I'm pretty happy with how this one turned out.

"The Circle"
Finally processing the photos from my day with and last week.
"...that all men are created equal..."
It's always nice to run into some .
Well, the good news is that spring is finally springing and my second new lens arrives Wednesday. Hopefully I'll be back in the photo game again soon!
Going to be without my real camera for a (hopefully brief) bit while I get my lenses valued for a possible trade.
Today's share from last year's road trip snapshots is mainly just for fun. We got a good chuckle here while refueling.
