Get to know your state officers! Vice President Jonah Holland is a member of Tishomingo County 4-H. We will be featuring an officer each month until May! Check out Jonah Holland's fun Q&A!
Q: What is your funniest 4-H memory?
A: One night during Co-op 2016, my roommate, Ty, decided he wanted to teach me how to trim my beard. Once word got out that he had an electric trimmer to my face, a crowd gathered in our dorm to watch. About halfway through the journey, the trimmer's battery died and no charger was packed with it. Another 4-H'er had clippers with him. I'll never forget Ty looking at me and saying, "I'm about to trim you up just like one of my show calves."
Q: What does the green jacket mean to you?
A: When I think of the green jacket, I think of responsibility and setting a positive example for my peers. Looking back, I remember looking up to all those in green jackets. Every time I put mine on, I get a sense of pride like I'm getting my chance to fulfill the legacy of everyone who has come before me.
Go vote for Mississippi!!

This man along with the other leaders within our county have provided me with a firm foundation of encouragement, love, and support for whatever I set my mind to. No telling how much time outside of a set work schedule the MSU Extension Service employees spend creating a bright future for all youth involved. Thank you so much for your service and belief in me and my future as a 4-Her. Making the best better one step at a time π" (She is pictured with Trent Barnett, Extension agent at the Calhoun County Extension Office)

A Mississippi 4-H'er named Grey posted..." to this February when I had the honor of receiving the Dixie Nationals Scholarship from Governor Bryant and Commissioner Hyde-Smith. As I prepare for my final year, I am truly grateful for the time I have spent with 4H and the countless number of people and animals that I have gotten the chance to meet. I wouldn't trade these years for anything."

A two-alarm fire tore through the Mississippi Agriculture and Forestry Museum, where it consumed two buildings, housing farm animals and equipment, just before 5:00 Thursday afternoon, November13th.
Jackson Fire Department Chief Investigator Greg Travis says it took about 50 fire fighters over an hour to get the roaring flames under control. He said, "They did a great job of bringing the fire under control in a timely manner and also, keeping the fire contained from some of the other adjacent buildings here on the property."
The 4-H Museum was not involved in the fire. Will keep you posted when we here more.
We currently do not have an Extension staff person located at the Museum, however if you are in Jackson and want to visit, please stop into the Ag Museum and go to the main office. They will be glad to show you around the museum. Deborah Knight, a former 4-H Youth Agent, is helping the Ag Museum with the 4-H Museum on large event days. Thank you Deborah we appreciate you.
Over 1,200 visitors have been to the museum since mid February. Weather has restricted visits to some extent. School visits have not yet peaked and the rest of April and first of May should be a busy time. We will have 4-H Leadership Team members at the museum during the Advisory Council meeting Tuesday, April 16 due to the Hinds County Extension 4-H Ag Adventures Day.
