The Emmet County Water Trails Association Trail was featured in the Summer 2023 Edition of the Iowa Outdoors Magazine! We are so lucky to have this wonderful amenity right in our backyard! Emmet County has Kayak Rentals!! For only $25 per day per kayak you can float down the West Fork of the Des Moines river from North Trailhead to Estherville! You pick your boat up at the top and drop it off at the bottom! Rentals run from 12-8pm daily and you must rent your kayak prior to 12pm on the day of rental! You can reserve your kayaks up to 21 days in advance! Life jackets and paddles included with your rental! Head to https://www.estherville.org/water-trails.html for more information and to rent!

A-17 Access has a large tree down about a half mile into the float. Portage is doable to get around it. Otherwise it was a great float!

Wow! Floated the river tonight. It’s definitely low!
If starting at A17, Expect a two block walk in the horseshoe bend of the river. Got out a few other spots as well.

Please, if you enjoy the river please pick up your trash. State came through a few weeks ago and cleaned up the river. So if everyone does their part and cleans up after themselves… everyone can enjoy nature!

Also the river is quite low in some spots so expect to port your vessels along the way!

It’s official!
Our Des Moines river in Emmet County is now a Certified Iowa Water Trail!

We floated the river Sunday from A17 to Estherville.
It was a good float even though the winds were 25 mile an hour!

River is low!
Really low!

Great night on the river after work last week! Got a nice surprise towards the end of the float. Definitely wasn’t camera shy!

First float of the year! It was a great float!

WARNING!!!! River level is extremely low for kayaking. Fire and Rescue have been out already today. Water Currents are in places that are not in the normal flow and are unsafe.
