This Wednesday, Our Menโ€™s Chapeltown Health Support Group will launch their new service from LATCHโ€™s Coach House. The group will focus on menโ€™s health issues and deal with some of the concerning health outcomes that are impacting men in the community. Itโ€™s a great opportunity for local men to get together in a safe and nonjudgemental environment to learn, share knowledge, and support each other ,
Doors open from 5.30pm and the session closes at 7.30pm
Drinks and snacks will be provided.

Letโ€™s discuss Cortisol ๐Ÿง 
Most of us know this as the stress hormone, and you are correct โœ…
Cortisol is released when we are stressed and it stays high when that stressful situation doesnโ€™t shift ๐Ÿง 

Example: that person walking slowly in front of you reading something in their phone ๐Ÿคฏ. Youโ€™re in a rush to nowhere. Been there, right?

During the menopause journey our cortisol levels are out of sync ๐Ÿ“ˆ

Cortisol interferes with your brain biochemistry making you quick to feel angry, irrational and impatient ๐Ÿง

Some days do just feel like staying in bed and locking yourself away from the world?

Yep me too, most days if Iโ€™m being totally honest ๐Ÿคฆ๐Ÿฝโ€โ™€๏ธ

What I find helps is jumping in the shower and putting a bit of makeup ๐Ÿ’„ on.

Makeup is subjective, in that some people think itโ€™s a must whilst others prefer to not wear it ๐Ÿคท๐Ÿผโ€โ™€๏ธ
when I was much younger I barely wore any makeup just my red lipstick ๐Ÿ‘„, where as now Iโ€™m in my perimenopause stage of life I feel I need it to even out my skin and make me look much fresher ๐Ÿ‘ฉ๐Ÿฝ

So what Iโ€™m suggesting ladies is do whatever it is that will help you to face the world ๐ŸŒ.

Let's get you prepared for your 10 min GP appointment.
Time to take back your power!
Letโ€™s get some details down on paper. Knowing when and what kind of symptoms you are experiencing, will allow you to identify ways to reduce them or the impact they have.
This information will also give you evidence to take to your GP if required.

Gift yourself 15 minutes of time every evening to review your day.

You will see over time how valuable this exercise can be, if done consistently.
By doing this practice you are creating a daily habit. A better awareness of your personal needs is essential to a better menopause well-being journey.
You will be proud of yourself and how far you will see yourself progressing.

Listen to your body, itโ€™s okay to take time out from a busy life.
If you feel tired and drained take note it could be down to a deficiency so if the feeling doesnโ€™t shift consider getting your bloods tested by your GP ๐Ÿ‘จโ€โš•๏ธ.
During the menopause journey you will find there are days you just donโ€™t feel yourself however listen to what your body is telling you donโ€™t ignore the evidence ๐Ÿ’œ

Itโ€™s important to give yourself the compassion and time to adjust to new way that your body and mind are working ๐Ÿ’œ
Take time out to rest and accept that during the menopause journey your hormones will be out of sync and this can impact how you might be feeling and thinking ๐Ÿ’œ
This is due fluctuating hormones and decreasing of some hormones such as oestrogen and progesterone. Take care of YOU ๐Ÿ’œ

My Gran passed away in 2023 aged 93 and the reason this saddens are for the following reasons.
๐Ÿ’œ 1821 a French physician coined the term menopause.
๐Ÿ’œ 1930s people started describing menopause as a deficiency disease. (oestrogen deficiency)
๐Ÿ’œ 1938 synthetic oestrogen was developed.
๐Ÿ’œ 1970s medicalization of menopause was complete.
๐Ÿ’œ 1970s International Menopause Society was established.
The average age of a woman starting their menopause journey is in their late 30's early 40's.
It really saddens me to know that my grandmother lived more than half her life in the menopause. When we consider the inequalities that we as women face in 2024 regarding the support and guidance for the menopause. My gran would of had no chance of a good quality of life. Women have been failed for too many generations.

It has been a few months since I started the Menopause Effect Cafรฉ, where all my fears and worries have become reality ๐Ÿงฟ

Over a 3rd of the UK population, 13 million will be experiencing an element of Menopausal symptoms ๐Ÿ˜ณ
However, more than half of these women:
๐Ÿฆ‹ have little or no knowledge of the Menopause journey or symptoms.
๐Ÿฆ‹ have experienced negative response from their GP practice.
๐Ÿฆ‹ Have been hastily offered antidepressants without further investigation into Menopausal health.
๐Ÿฆ‹ have no one to talk to or confide with about how they are feeling or struggling.

As always, the list is endless, and that, my dears, is why I will continue to hold a space for others to come along and unpick the Menopause journey for as long as it's required.

I will be taking some time out to spend with family and close friends ๐Ÿ’œ

We go through a number of natural hormonal changes throughout our lives ๐Ÿฆ‹
๐ŸŸฃ As early as eight, we can start to menstrate. Can you imagine being 8 in primary school and already having changes in your hormones!
๐ŸŸฃ Then, we start to grow hair under our arms and our private areas. Our b**b area starts to swell! For some, the first of many mood swings and the weeping for no apparent reason!
๐ŸŸฃ Then we have regular periods... until we don't!
๐ŸŸฃ Iregular periods followed by hot sweats, brain fog, weight gain, intrusive thoughts, hair loss, brittle nails, insomnia, aches joint pain, itchy skin.......and so the list goes on!
๐ŸŸฃ This number of hormonal changing stages is increased if we go on to have children, IVF, born too soon ๐Ÿฅบ xx

I have nothing against taking antidepressants if they are prescribed correctly. However many women have made it known that they have been prescribed antidepressants before being offered an informed conversation into other reasons they might have a low mood.
