SIMSALABIM is the first solo exhibition in Vienna by German-born artist Tjorg Douglas Beer (*1973, Lübeck). The show focuses on new glazed ceramics and bronze figures, all created within the last two years. Rockets and bombs are stamped with faces and other various objects from the artist's studio. They appear as a symbiosis of an anthropomorphic representation with an inanimate object, as assemblages of figure and technical form. The bronzes are partly inspired by idealised human figures, reaching back to classical Greek sculpture. Composed of Ken or Barbie dolls and other plastic objects like fast food containers, cutlery and bottles, they show an utopian / dystopian character. Complementing the sculptures, abstract paintings with a focus on the process of painting, are shown in the exhibition. They are the result of an intensive artistic process between interaction and improvisation.
