Jefferson County ALabama ARES participated with the Birmingham Amateur Radio Club ( BARC ) for the ARRL Field Day 24 at Sylvan Springs behind the Town Hall and Fire Department. We had a good time and will give an updated report in a few days....taking some time to recover from the heat first....

However, we have permission to share this bit, a non-amateur radio operator got on a radio and made a contact over the airwaves. We gave her a certificate and you can see how big her smile is..... Congrats to Renee Falls for her participation !!

I know that today is the AL EMA (state ema) hurricane exercise. I do not have much information beyond that other than the ICS 205, or Incident Radio Communications Plan that i will share here shortly. I am at work in Perry County AL today and will participate on the HF side of things.

If anyone local in Jefferson County wants to do any nets, check with the repeater trustees and see about using them. Also you can do a net on simplex if you wish.

If you do these things, just please send me your report so that we can include it in the ARES reports for the month.

Thank you and REMEMBER ARES that you are APPRECIATED more than you know!!

SEVERE WEATHER AWARENESS, SHELTERING, AND WARNING FEEDBACK OPPORTUNITY:

Central Alabama - You're invited to participate in a new online survey and study led by Dr. Laura Myers from the University of Alabama, Dr. Jennifer Collins from the University of South Florida, and Dr. David Roueche from Auburn University.

The goal of this study is to gain a more in-depth understanding of severe weather risk faced by households when taking action from severe weather warnings. In this voluntary survey, you'll have an opportunity to provide your feedback in terms of severe weather preparedness. How well do you think your place of sheltering or residence will hold up if severe weather strikes, and how does that influence your decision to take action when a warning is issued?

The weather research community would love to hear from you! Links to the voluntary survey are below. There's a consent to information form at the beginning and a description of different participation options:

English: https://tinyurl.com/49j6fmu5

Spanish: https://tinyurl.com/2t3wnw99

Thanks for your participation to help improve the warning and response process!
