Story / Byline About Album

Coming off a Grammy win for their work with J. Ivy, Tensei is excited to release ReARTiculations, a tribute taking them back to the start of their musical journeys by sampling records. Respectively, both Midas Wells and WhoIsKramer of Tensei loved sampling the classic KPM Libraries coming up. When given the opportunity to rework some songs for this classic musical library wanted to embrace their sample based musical foundation while expanding on original composition. The result is entirely rearticulated; transformed songs that sound like entirely new compositions. Playing most of the parts themselves after tuning the samples, Tensei enlisted a few friends to help articulate the new direction, often reworking midi recordings originally created by Tensei and sang to the musicians by Kramer.

A few notes about each track

Midnight Ride; The rework was inspired by old NFL film scores and other historical documentaries from the 60s-70s. - instrumental hip hop/trip hop

Good Morning; KPM was unable to recognize the sample upon first submission. The rework is a constantly changing piece. -

Perseverance: dance fusion, left field -

Birds Eye View: Feels like a journey through the wilderness

Vortex: Sunny morning vibes sunday playlists, happy day, etc. positive vibes

Tranquility feat Greg Spero: Enlisted world class pianist to create work based on “what if fly lo did a happy song” could fit on some new age and classical playlist as well as wonky and mega left field.

Legend: Epic sample, the only track with a flat out KPM loop

Solstice: Micro copped flip with live playing, hip hop heads

Reuinon: Cali funk vibes, def some sorta of those types of places should like it.

A while back A. Billi Free and Chris Kramer from the team Tensei jammed a semi-improvised live version of "Erosion" and captured it on a couple camera phones.. the tune is from from the I Luma Album Released by Tokyo Dawn Records a month ago today. Jonathan Woods-Apuat En Heru took the footage and tripped it out for us.
